Henkei Shining Magnus (cab-only)

Alrighty!

Finally got the loose Classics Optimus Prime that I nabbed at TFCon repainted.

Here we have Henkei Shining Magnus (for those of you who don't know, it would be this exclusive reissue of G1 Ultra Magnus: http://www.tfu.info/2001/Autobot/Ult...ltramagnus.htm). He's done pretty much the same way as my previous Henkei Powered Convoy (as seen here: http://www.cybertron.ca/boards/showthread.php?t=7922), with the blue replaced with yellow.

Now, I'm personally less satisfied with this one than Powered Convoy, mainly because of 3 flaws on Shining Magnus.
A little background for those who don't do very much repainting themselves, but yellow is normally known to be tough to paint, because of a) its tendancy to clump up for reasons that I've never looked into, and b) its difficulty to cover up darker tones underneath. As such, the 3 flaws on this guy are:
1) When I was dyeing a part of the top of the truck, part of the harder plastic got dyed black as well, and it was tough to paint yellow over it (see reason B) above)
2) Because of reason A above, the coats of yellow paint ended up thicker than I'd have liked, and led to minor paint chipping in some small areas
3) When I dyed the aformentioned top of the truck parts, I think some of the parts warped slightly, and thus don't fit quite so nicely anymore...

Some of this probably could've been avoided if my starting point had been a Classics Magnus instead of a Classics Prime, but the latter was much easier to come by, unfortunately...

With that being said, I'm still glad this one's done as well. And now, onto the pics!

Looks awesome FG! I think your crazy he looks great and I cant see anything wrong with him. I also think you should rethink the whole City Commander set thing

That paint ap looks flawless! I was really trying to find the issues you had with it, but cannot see them. Great job!

that looks super cool...

my only issue is the side panels that face up on the fore arm, I can see the overspray of paint. Do you have plans to paint along that edge, or remove the paint from that underside and have the clear plastic show? I think doing either of those would help in that area, unless it's meant to be like that. Otherwise the paint job is fantastic.

Same, I suggested brush on some black or silver when I commented @ TFW, that would really make this guy pop !

Thanks for the reminder about the overspray; I noticed it after taking the pics, but forgot to fix it!

Woke up early to take care of it; I opted to remove the paint there with a bit of paint thinner to show the clear blue to be more accurate to the Henkei paint scheme.
