Thumbs up Hasbro vs. Takara Masterpiece Starscream

Got my Hasbro MP Starscream today (thank you style!) and snapped some comparison shots. Paint apps are almost identical. There are some very subtle differences:

  • Hasbro nose cone is blue, Takara is grey
  • Hasbro Decepticon logo has a silver border
  • One green and one red wing tip light on Takara. Both are red on Hasbro
  • Dark grey plastic is slightly darker on Takara i.e. intakes, cockpit seats, etc
  • Cockpit window is slightly darker orange tint on Takara
  • Underside of Hasbro wing has some ugly made in China and CE stamps
  • Hand is a slightly lighter shade of blue than forearm on Hasbro. Takara is uniform.
Accessories

  • Hasbro includes the flight stand and missile racks
  • Takara includes the coronation crown and cape and shoulder gear
  • Hasbro pilot figure is black, Takara is translucent blue
  • Grey Megatron gun mode clip for Hasbro. Don't think Takara came with one. Edit: Takara comes with black clip

Now the big difference. The Hasbro joints are 100% better than my Takara. YMMV. I have the reissue MP-11 so maybe it was tighter on the original release. I can move the arms up and down without the the damn rocket launcher flap opening by itself. the chest does not slide up and down every time you touch it. EVERY joint is better than my Takara.

Overall impression. Get it. Seriously.

And here are the pics...

And this is how I prefer to pose these. Takara stays in alt mode with cartoon accurate grey nose cone posed on flight stand, while Hasbro stays in bot mode with the MP-11 coronation crown, cape, shoulder gear and Hasbro missile racks.

Nice comparison. Just got my email from TRU for the item being in stock. Getting jumpy now haha.

Hey can I ask you where did you get those LED light systems? Those are really sweet

Re: Hasbro vs. Takara Masterpiece Starscream

Nice comparison. I would have totally missed the differences if you didn't pointed them out.

BTW, what's with SS's face? In the cartoon he didn't have a huge chin and was kind of baby fat, this one is so thin and serious. Any 3rd party head yet?

Thanks for the review. I never picked up the MP-11 so it's nice to see the comparison. I'm hoping the Hasbro Version will be able to use the old Screamer coronation kit as I will probably sell my Takara MP-3 eventually

Nice job with the comparison pics, Multiplex! Both look great but I'm really appreciating a few of the differences on the Hasbro version.

Re: Hasbro vs. Takara Masterpiece Starscream

Thanks for the detailed notes and pics! I missed out on Takara... Glad to have a chance at Hasbro.

The only thing I'm displeased about is the green light paint -- as odd as that may sound... The coronation kit is amusing, but I wouldn't miss it. It would have been better (IMO) if the cape was actually a cloth cape... Or Chain mail armour -like material... Something flexible.

Re: Hasbro vs. Takara Masterpiece Starscream

Thanks for the great review!

I just took a look at my Takara one and the gun clip is black so that is another differance.

I'm glad they fixed the Hasbro one so that it is tighter and holds together better. Now that the mold is fixed bring on some more MP seekers!
