i used ricochet's head. cut off the side grills.

Which paint do you use? Just curious about your customizing process.

I've never heard of these paints, are they available in spray can only, or did you hand paint them?

I was hoping to use some of my model kit paints (Tamiya, Testors, Mr. Color), but I don't know if they'll work on TF plastics or not.

Do you prime/disassemble your kits or do you just paint them right over the plastic?

Re: yes another (wip) alt ratchet (and my ironhide).

here's what i do:

1) disassembly
2) cleaning
3) light sanding.
4) cleaning again
5) paint
6) light sanding again
7) depending how many coats i repeat 3 and 5.
8) top coat
9) protective coat.

here's what i should do:

1) disassembly
2) cleaning
3) sanding the previous paint.
4) cleaning again
5) prime
6) light sanding
7) paint
8) very light sanding again.
9) depending how many coats, repeat 7 and 8.
10) top coat
11) protective coat

i skipped a lot of steps. i'm not the most patient guy. if this was for a commission or favour to a friend. i'd never skip.

so far i haven't primed yet. iron hide was never primed either. i've used testors. they're great but too expensive (it comes in a tiny bottle) for me. i never painted any toys before this either. although now, i think i should just take my time, if not it takes longer. i got away with not priming before but nowadays... sigh.

almost forgot, touch ups. i have lots on this one and i really mean ALOT.

Re: yes another (wip) alt ratchet (and my ironhide).

Interesting seali, I hope you wear a charcoal filtered mask though! Those Enamel Testors paints are pretty toxic!

As well, I suggest wet sanding, to avoid inhaling all the small plastic particles, you can use sandpaper that's been dipped in water (although it'll eventually "fall apart") or waterproof sandpaper (sold in hobby shops).

I've only built gundams before though, but I'm just concerned for your safety!

Priming makes painting a lot more easer and removes any reminents of the original TF color. Airbrushing obviously gives it the best look, but I heard they're not very durable, I know Spencer for A3U does this method though (I saw a nice Leader class Movie Megatron), and it looked awesome.

Can't wait to see more!

Man the more I see Ratchet kb'd with the Scion mold makes me want to do one... already have Ratchet KB'd with the white KO hound so that will do.

Nice paint jobs on both and protect yourself man
