Like they said, wouldn't make much sense for a robot to transform into another robot supposed to look like the first robot. :P

Droid figures never even occured to me. I like the idea, but it does raise the question "what do they turn into?" Of course, one can argue "why the heck does Darth Vader turn into the Death Star (even though it's cool)?"

Ya, know C3PO into a Sandcrawler would probably work great. How about R2D2 into an escape pod from the start of A New Hope? I can't believe the folks from Hasbro/Lucasland are this uncreative...... They just want to keep popping new heads on and repainting those Jedi Starfighters.

It's kind of silly applying any sort of continuity argument (flawed though it be) to SWTFs.

The line was clearly invented by somebody who didn't care much about that sort of thing.

Easy : SWTF vehicles are to be piloted by organic creatures. So R2D2 and C3PO are out.

Except for every trade federation vehicle piloted by a robot. Also the Star Wars Expanded Universe has established that an R2 unit can pilot an X-Wing and C3PO can pilot the Falcon. C3PO even pilots Luke's Landspeeder in A New Hope I believe, if I'm remebering correctly....
