I have a question for you guys. I've seen people mention that Ages3annUp don't charge up front for pre-orders.

How do I use this option? When I click pre-order, it send me to their shop pay check out system and my only option is to "pay now"

It's really easy.
1. Do NOT click on the express checkout. hit the continue to payment button.
2. Fill out the necessary information - then hit continue.
3. Ignore the pay now section - and look at the options below it. You will see the Pre-order (Pay when blahblah blah) I've highlighted the spot where you have to click on with the red dot.

That's it.

Thanks! So I've noticed that my account with them automatically forwards me to the shop pay check out. I'm not sure how to disable it. I had to check out as a guest instead to get around it.

When you hit checkout, and you are taken to the checkout screen, beside your payment option look for the down arrow to click. There should be a "Use a different payment method" button. If you hit that, you are taken to page to enter new payment information, and the option to "pre-order - pay when available" will be shown as seen in Slayback's pic posted.

Be wary of the back spoiler piece; the red plastic nearest to the black hinges is prone to stressing easily. My attached picture is the plastic after being dunked in freshly boiled water, with the stress marks still present.

Transformed from vehicle mode once, and pegged/unpegged that back piece 3 times at most. I've opted to keep it separated as a partsforming piece.

I have had nothing but great experiences ordering from them. However $70 for Netflix Bee is insane, and not too great for the others at $50. I have to assume they are sourcing these from Japan?

Could be the case for the rest of the line that the price reflects how much they are paying for them but the Bee is just them asking more for it.

Knowing one of the owners a lil bit and seeing how he's been fairly transparent when higher costs translated into higher prices with his other business, I'm pretty confident that's what we're seeing here, and yeah these probably were indeed sourced from a distributor intending them for japanese market release.

The suggestion that Bumblebee is where they're looking to actually make the profit is probably true as well, since he's the chase figure and they were almost certainly required to buy these as case assortments. I mean, really, anyone who wanted Impactor or Siege Red Alert will have gotten them in this deco or one almost exactly like it long ago.

At a glance, it might seem scalpy, but that's never been their style, and I'm not about to assume they're starting down that dark path over one wave listing.

nah, here's the 411

a few months ago smaller sellers like a3u was offered this deluxe wave. Nothing unusual or weird but some of those retailers passed because Bee is the only real seller with Elita taking second. The rest are shelf warmers as they are lke the 3rd release of said characters (wheeljack, impactor....)

so what youre seeing is a jack up in price on the big seller to cover the potential loss of the shelf warmers. Essentially they are packing the entire waves profit on Bee in the event they have left overs from the rest.

still scalpy

Doesn't look like these are from Japan as they have stock images of the NA packaging. I'd be open to the idea that they're trying to recover losses on the others except they are charging $50 for those too. Not even CMD is doing that (and CMD allows you to buy the full set for $33.99 each). Even if that was the case, assuming the case pack is the same as WM, they are MORE than making up for the losses if they were to sell the non-Bee&Elita figures for $10 each (which wouldn't be too hard).

I get that A3U are good people, I've bought from them and have pre-orders with them, and they are excellent. But this sucks in my opinion. I get they're not breaking rules, and I am sympathetic to the challenges of small businesses, but it sucks when only a handful of outlets get something and they all jack up the price.

At least with regular scalpers we have a chance to get them at a normal price before they scoop them up. Not so here, and that's why I think this is terrible. I get that they may want to charge a bit extra as specialty often do. But more than double retail for Bumblebee?

I got no skin in the game here - I was lucky enough to find Bee & Elita at WM. But if everyone who got theirs always keeps quiet, this stuff is never going to change.

1 - Does anyone here know for a fact what they paid for these figures? Not speculation, but fact.

2 - But for the sake of argument, lets say they paid the same as Walmart. If I posted up Netflix stuff for higher prices, would anyone here bat an eye? But yet a small retailer does it and suddenly the pitchforks and torches are out. Sure raise a stink. Maybe next time they won't even bother with that small selection and instead focus their resources on something else that won't garner them a punch in the face for simply offering the consumer an option.

Because that's what it is. If you don't like their price, then you have the option to not pay it, like me.

Do I like the price for Bee, no, which why I'm not paying it. I actually want one, but if I miss out on this one Bee, I'm not going to get flustered. Because missing out on an umpteenth Bumblebee isn't the end of the world, and I'm sure he'll get a re-release in some form. Or heck, in a new and improved form down the road.

IMHO, people are getting them selves all up in a froth over FOMO. The smell of desperation and fear of missing out lingers around here like a big wet fart in a small elevator. I've been collecting long enough to know yesterday's hotness is tomorrow's bargain bin staple. Patience is paramount if you want something at your personal price point.

And on a final side note. Did anyone take notice they were selling Commander class Rodimus Prime for $115, which is $10 cheaper than what TRU is charging? Guess which retailer I chose to buy from?

steamwhistle
11-15-2021, 06:18 PM
heh.

it's not just about one figure -- there is an overall business with thousands of product to consider.

if you can run a retail business better, go for it.

don't like it; don't buy.

I can understand that there are many reasons as to why they might mark-up Bee is such a fashion. I'm fine with it.

I'd rather have a Netflixy Bee @ $70 instead of 4.5 meals at some wretched fast food place.

i'll just trade off my budget in that sense if I decide I want that Bee, and it would be an easy buy for myself.

...

1 - I don't know what they're paying and I imagine it's not as good a deal as Walmart (though that's not certain either since WM may have had to pay a premium for the exclusivity window). But I'd wager it's close to if not the same as CMD, and they are offering the 5 figures for $169.95 which leads me to believe there's money to be made in selling them for $33.99.

2 - If you bought it and posted it at a premium at least, in theory, we all had some opportunity to buy them at retail. We don't have that opportunity with the Bumblebee reissue, that is what bothers me. Scalpers suck, but everyone should be able to sell their stuff for what it's worth. I just have a problem with stuff going straight from the distributor to excessively marked up prices. If they added $10-15 I wouldn't be posting this but it's more than double, almost 150% increase.

I don't think it's fair to say we shouldn't have the conversation because next time they may not bother to order any. We don't have to agree on this, it's cool. But I'm glad I got to bring it up and express my concern, even if nobody else here agrees or cares.

Of course nobody is being forced to buy anything at a price they don't like. I always tell people not to pay scalper prices for Hasbro product because they reissue or remake stuff all the time. But that advice doesn't work if the reissue can only be bought at scalper prices.

Does the price for Bee suck? Yes. But as Sun Swipe Prime pointed out, we really don't know what their costs were to obtain the wave. And as UsernamePrime pointed out, stock sitting on their shelves just costs them money especially with two figures that could be found in the general release unlike Bee and Elita. Only ppl who missed out originally or like to collect every variation will be the main customers for the two repaints.

Honestly, the bigger issue is Hasbro releasing these figures that everyone wants as store exclusives. Should be like the MOTU Origins line. Exclusive for x amount of months. Then general release everywhere else. Or least get a general release down the line even if different accessories or something.

If they sold them at that price, who buys them? Ideally, the regular Joes, right? But in that instance, it'll be just like it being sold at Walmart. It'll be a free for all, and there will be a shortage of supply, because we all know there is. So, some will end up in the regular Joe's hands. Well, those who are quick enough to order. Others will end up being scooped and scalped just like they'd be if they were sold by Walmart. The extra money goes to the scalper here.

At the higher price, it makes it riskier or not worth it at all for the scalper, and in this case, the retailer makes the extra money. And more of the product is available for the consumer if they're willing to pay the price for it.

IMHO, at the end of the day, it's about who ends up with the extra money from a bump in price, and how much that bump in price is. Right now on Ebay, I'm seeing Bee going for $60-$70 American.

2 - If you bought it and posted it at a premium at least, in theory, we all had some opportunity to buy them at retail. So, basically the retailer is the bad guy here just because they have sources that the regular person doesn't? Scalpers can get to product before regular people too. All they have to do is know someone on the inside that can let them know exactly when something will be hitting the shelves in exchange for a buck or two.

I don't think it's fair to say we shouldn't have the conversation because next time they may not bother to order any. We don't have to agree on this, it's cool. But I'm glad I got to bring it up and express my concern, even if nobody else here agrees or cares.

No where did I say we can't have this conversation, but lets be fair about this. Every small retailer bumps the price on high demand figures. Yet, in this one particular instance we're choosing to give A3U flak for it and none of the other retailers? And at the same time not even noticing or caring that in some instances they actually sell things at a lower cost than regular retail.

Of course nobody is being forced to buy anything at a price they don't like. I always tell people not to pay scalper prices for Hasbro product because they reissue or remake stuff all the time. But that advice doesn't work if the reissue can only be bought at scalper prices.

If the price isn't right, then don't pay it regardless of what figure it is. Transformers aren't a necessity. They're a luxury that no one absolutely needs. We can't always get what we want. That's life. We can't let FOMO drive us to pay what we're not comfortable with. That way madness lies.

steamwhistle

RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE. this conversation is a go nowhere pointless endeavor.

Correct.

What is occurring is complaining without any prospect of resolution. Quite similar to a lot of complaining in the world... Still, it can be therapeutic to vent.

These retailers are in a tough spot. They don't want to lose money, and I won't blame them for that. Is the problem with Hasbro/Takara and/or their distributors forcing the retailers to buy specific wave boxes including less-desired items? Really, anger and disappointment should be directed higher up the chain -- not at the bottom level retailers.

Yeah I agree it is bullshit they aren't contacting people. I'm surprised, never ordered from them myself but they always seemed to have a good reputation. Wonder what happened.

I've had many orders with them, both Transformers and Star Wars, and this is the first time I've had an issue. And if it was just a slow response but I eventually got one, I'd be ok with it. But this is product that I got an invoice for, they showed it was in stock on their Facebook, and I've gotten no response from them. And they are actively posting on Facebook and Instagram, so there's people doing online services. It's just frustrating because they have been really good in the past.

Hmm, I just realized that I never heard back from them on a request to cancel a preorder. They used to be really good about getting back to people but I’ve noticed over the past year or two, they’ve steadily gotten worse with their response times.

This is kinda late for the chime in, but I received my DNA Scorponok kits from A3U a while ago (back in June). The other thing to keep in mind is, they won't ship until all items in your order comes in to their shop, so they're not losing on shipping (no complaints there). I had items that were available for 6+ months but were shipped at the time the last item was available.

I did have an issue with their response where we were communicating back and forth about a replacement, and then it just ended, with no response, even after several follow ups. It was a manufacturer problem and I just let it go after several non-responses. Still, kinda soured the experience.

I did end up hearing back from them on my stuff, I commented on an Instagram post asking if they could reply and heard the next day. They were able to sort out my shipment and I received my order. Maybe give that a shot?

That’s rather annoying (about the communication). I’ve had very poor response time from them, if I actually hear anything sometimes. I shouldn’t have to track them down on social media just for them to answer an email.
I’ve pretty much given up on using A3U at this point. I’d rather deal with a store that will actually communicate with their customers. I used to sing their praises but not after my experiences over the past year or so. Just not worth my time anymore.

E-mail responses have definitely been incredibly slow. But I have had luck simply calling their store as they will answer questions about online orders. And they've always been extremely helpful on the phone.

Good to hear about the Facebook route others mentioned too.

That was my experience as well. I placed an order for 6 items, some preorder, some not. It came together in one shipment 7 months later. That said, it was a good experience overall. They answered my emails within 24 hours every time. I always knew what items were in stock and what they were waiting on. And... my Galvatron came with the correct shoulders. It was all worth the wait.

Anyone receive the 3rd Scorponok DNA kit (legs)? I noticed some state side reviews for it. Has it released here yet?

Ive been at it for over a month.

DNA says they released the kit in Sept and other members here say they got it around then as well.

My other item is Star Wars Black Tech which also released months ago.

A3U just isn't responding. I tried FB messenger just now and straight up posted a complaint on their FB page for all to read. I'm tired of jumping through hoops only to be ignored for a PREPAID ORDER FROM MAY 2021!!!! At this point I have no options as I am well past the 180 days PP allows for disputes.

Ill call later today as well. Ive had 2 orders with them in 2021, both have issues with them shipping things out months later with no communication.

Ill never buy from them again and will actively advise people to never bother with them as well.

*update* making a big stink on FB seems to have worked as they sent an email saying they will ship out this week.

A3U, you suck. Might as well start calling yourself Northmen Collectables now.

I hadn't bought from A3U for quite some time but recently made a couple purchases to try and get rid of an outstanding credit I have.

I was very happy with the in store experience but everything after was really bad.

could not get through on the phone and voicemails were not replied to.

emails were also ignored.

I think everyone is having a hard time right now as far as as staffing, etc goes but it definitely will make the think before ordering from there again too.

Not even bothering to respond to multiple emails over weeks isn't covid issue. It's a management issue.

Hi All,

Just wanted to chime in here.

First off for anyone getting slower responses or to anyone that has not received a reply yet, this is not the norm and without looking into the reasons, I would like to simply say sorry.

It is frustrating from a customer's point of view no matter what the issue is when their inquiries are left up in the air. I can assure you that we are a small team, when things do fall through the cracks, we do not take it lightly no matter what the issue is. We care deeply and work our hardest to make things happen.

I know there is always another side to every story including ours. I did not want to come onto here and do some typical public write off that larger companies do nor do I want to make excuses for mistakes we have made.

What I would like to do is acknowledge how backups can make our customers feel in any department and want to be transparent about the challenges we are facing.

The last 2 years have been a great growing experience for us. Along with growth, are major challenges. Some are situations we were experienced in handling and some are new situations we are not.

I don't want to ramble about how Covid affected us, as I feel it is a given that it affected everyone, not just us. Like everyone, we have had to work with it for a while now and it's not easy, but it's also something that has unfortunately become part of the workflow.

Our challenges through this time period has taught us how to grow and invest in our infrastructure and we are better for it. Having said that, it is a large challenge. Our team is still the core 4 people you have grown to know over the past decade and although we have added to the team, we have lost team members along the way during these past couple of years. We have been trying to adapt to these changes the best we can.

In the past 2 years we have had to set up a new warehouse and warehouse management software (to address volume and shipping inefficiencies). This was a challenge due to the fact we used to run everything from our retail store. This meant more staff changes during Covid. Training someone in this difficult period, in a specialized field came with a lot of setbacks.

Shipping, production and cost changes from a manufacturing level also produced unique challenges which created a lot more work and logistical issues.

Development and ongoing maintenance of our systems online to ensure we are not ignoring our digital growth is an ongoing challenge (this includes our ticketing system which we need to update regularly to help us prioritize the thousands of emails and social posts that come through every month).

These are a few of the larger challenges we have faced with all the changes. Once you start throwing in trade shows returning and holiday volume, it takes a bit to adjust. We are still a mom-and-pop shop (literally our family business). We just work hard to put ourselves out there and be everywhere. This really forces us to find the right balance of not being too large for us and not being so small that it is difficult to expand our products our customers are wanting us to carry.

Again, just being transparent, not making excuses. Our challenges are not ones that are yours to bear, but we are grateful to express these issues and have the community grow with us through our ups and downs.

Our main thing is we don't want anyone to think we are just looking at problems (being staffing, communications etc.) and just saying whatever and ignoring them. We are actively trying to improve everything. Mistakes will happen, human error does not allude us with these growing pains, but we will make sure we take care of customers.

We have been around for over a decade, and with a lot of hard work and a bit of luck, have had the opportunity to do much more than just be a local shop; We've been a part of sponsoring conventions and working with independent 3p companies to make cool products for the fandom.

I know it's hard to imagine all of this when we are all just words on a page. I can assure you, anyone that has met me or my team in person knows that we take our work seriously and care about our customers. I have met many of you at shows, at our retail store and would never feel good about making you not feel good about your dealings with us.

As a side note, I know that when it feels like there is little choice but to go onto Social Media or Forums to call us out, that it may be a way to vent about the situation, I don't judge. I don't expect our customers to chase us down for answers, but just know that our team is not acknowledging anyone based on how loud they scream. We believe in acknowledging ANY issue that comes to our attention. If things are missed, there could be technical or volume related reasons, but never because we are dismissing anyone no matter what tone they are taking with us... we are 100% behind helping you out. We would prefer you to be nice though, as we are not just some jerks behind a computer ;)

Our phone line 604-569-1872 is also open daily from 12pm-6pm (same hours as our store and warehouse is open to public) Please listen for the prompt as it is NOT a voicemail but directions on what number to punch in to reach shipping or for order inquiries.

Thanks for Listening and we look forward to always improving and rolling with the punches!

Was there a FB post about Tesla 2.0 going up? I totally missed it if there was.

I managed to get one from KoolToyz, so it's all good. I was just wondering.

Honestly though, I wish you guys did what a couple other places do, and that's post it on FB, maybe have a mailing list, and have a set day and time when they go up that gives people time to actually hear that they'll be going up soon.

Just my on personal wish. :)

I can at least appreciate the communication from Ages3andUp... but also makes me wonder if they act as a distributor for other stores.

I recently preordered something from a similar store and found out they got in the item I preordered in but I can only guess they did not get enough to fill preorders because when I asked about it they said "Should get some more"... like wtf.

A3U is my favourite store in the world.
Hyperbolic I know, but it seriously is.
I lived nearby for a couple of years (just moved back to Toronto a couple of months ago) and they've got a huge operation now.

I appreciate their YouTube videos, showing us the behind-the-scenes of the warehouse expansion, and knowing the transport challenges BC faced in the last month or so, along with COVID, along with holiday season, ALONG WITH 2 TFCONs in 3 months, I'd say they're doing pretty well.

Looking forward to the ThreeZero Hulkbuster, and G2-colours XTB Motormaster that I preordered from them.

Honestly, this is my first negative experience with them, and they quickly made it right. Stuff happens. Every other purchase I've had from them has been completely positive. Three things can come into play here. It's not uncommon for a store to get a partial fill on an order, especially on brand new stuff. IE, store orders 100 of a particular product, distributor will get SOME in, and send 60, with the other 40 following (usually fairly quickly, but not always).

The other common thing is multiple orders from distribution. If a store takes pre-orders, and has ordered 100 of an item from distribution, but those sell out. They then pre-order another 50 from distribution a few weeks later and put them back up for pre-order to customers. If you are order #120, you're gonna be in the second batch, and so yes, it's likely they will get some in (the first 100) but you won't get yours in that batch.

Thirdly, is the different ways that product is distributed. Most items, especially Transformers, are generally available either as an assortment, or as a solid case. Often both are ordered at the same time, but they are not necessarily released at the same time. Assortments are often released before solid cases (usually just a matter of a few weeks, but it's a thing). The current wave with Pipes/Slammer is a good example. In an assortment case of 8, you've got 2 each of Pipes, Slammer, Airazor, and Blackarachnia. 2 of those items are repeats from prior waves, so stores may well order a certain quantity of the assortment, but also a certain amount of just Pipes and Slammer so as not to be buried in repeat product. Again, if you're early in ordering, you'll likely get your order filled from whatever cases come in first (likely the assortment).

Lesson to take away, is if you need to be the first to get your stuff, you need to be among the first to order it. Hope that sheds some light.

Very valid points. I believe I was early ordering as the site generally marks thing as "second shipments".

I also work and deal with distributors daily and this "partial" shipment is not something I experience all too often but yet when it comes to action figures it apparently happens all the time. Sure things are backordered but its never a "surprise"... you know production schedules almost 2 years out. Again might be a difference in industry but its weird to see all this issues in one scenario but not in another.

In the case of Tigatron lets say... Walmarts, ToyRus and all the big retailers with multiple phases of delivery from distributor to store arrived before said "speciality shop".

I guess my bottom line is communication. If you cannot communicate which phase of preorder your customers are ordering from then you should communicate that as product comes in.

I have no real complaint though, this place has generally been amazing for me but when something goes wrong it generally overpowers the good.

I say meh. I had issues with communication months ago and when I finally got ahold of someone it was brushed off and said they?d look into fixing it. It only appears to have gotten worse as everywhere I look people are having issues communicating with your store. I spent quite a bit of money there and I won?t shop there again because of it. I like supporting the little guy. But if Amazon can get back to me and not make me feel completely ignored then that?s where I?m taking my money. Sorry, I hope your store gets better so you don?t end up going out of business but you need to communicate with your customers or that will happen.

Thanks for all the love and critical feedback here... I know that transparency is not going to walk back any frustrations caused, we get it and we will just do better to not allow those mistakes define us.

Specific to issues with communication, we can only assure that our ticketing system is managed on a daily basis and it's intensive. If something is missed, no matter what the reason, it sucks for all of us. But it can happen and our goal is to cut these incidents out.

Regarding distribution, appreciate omegacanuck chiming in on that. It's very accurate to the challenges retailers are facing. Especially when volume is involved. It is also something that specifically affects the most popular items.

Hasbro for example this past couple of years has seen tremendous growth globally and with massively popular fan lines such as Studio Series and WFC Trilogy. This is the first time in a long time I have seen Hasbro do the kinds of allocations they are doing recently. Multiple shipments and different assortment runs has really been prevalent in timing of product releases. There are some figures in certain regions that never even show up for the big stores.

In response to BC slow downs, it has been a terrible year for that. Mainly the floods we have dealt with in the past 2 months have slowed down transportation for carriers.

It also came at the worst time possible for those who owned properties in the flood area as this happened right before winter. Literally all routes cutoff in the beginning and only slowly reopening 1 or 2 routes for essential transport in the weeks following.

For online retailers on the west coast this meant having Canada Post hold customer packages for extended lengths of time while it moves through the queue.

We got to the point of having to hold back packages as there were so many packages being held by Canada Post. We were not only uncomfortable with that, but you can probably guess how much additional customer service inquiries started coming in about why tracking isn't moving. Answers only Canada Post have.

We did start being a bit more clever and with the help of some really great friends and fans out in Ontario and Alberta we were able to get a lot of movement on packages in December.

It came at a higher cost, but manageable to get packages out on time for the holidays.

Special thanks to our people out in Toronto and Calgary that helped make that happen. You are amazing!

Boris

As long as your staff remains responsive on phone calls, I'll stick with A3U for now, but seriously, your ticketing and/or e-mail support system is broken or something.

I realize you probably have tons of e-mails but that's a problem you need to solve!

I think most posts (that I concur with based on my own experience) indicate that e-mails/support ticket requests are not being responded to in anything remotely like a timely fashion. Months later and no response (which is what has happened to me - e-mails from August and mid-October were never responded to until I phoned in late December)... I was pretty close to leaving as a customer.

Other people will not be so patient or think about phoning and you may lose or are losing customers... I don't want to see A3U go away so please do something about this soon...

Sounds like you had a very similar experience to me. I will never waste a second of my time on this company again after how their customer service is handled.

There’s other companies that deserve your money moreso that will treat their customers with respect.

There's always 2 sides to every story.

A3U has already admitted they're working to try and resolve the situation. They're getting volumes of emails and working through them doesnt happen overnight. Trying to continue to kick them while they're down is petty. Kinda speaks volumes of what type of person/customer you are.

You don't like them - don't buy from them.

Your blanketing statement that they don't treat customers with respect is likely purely out of your own situation and even then from what seems be a very jaded perspective.

I know A3U will go out of their way to correct issues if given the chance.

To add to this. Have there been delays? For me, yes. BUT in the end, they've always come through. I've never missed out on a product that I ordered/preordered.

Whenever I've gone into the store to pick stuff up, the people there have always been kind and courteous, and have never given me the impression that they don't care. Quite the opposite.

I've gone into the store and seen them swamped with boxes and have to fetch my item by rummaging through them. My outsider's perspective has been consistent with what they've said. There's stuff behind the scenes that they need to sort out to be more efficient.

So, for me, as long as they're coming through in the end, a delay here and there isn't going to bother me too much.

Considering there?s multiple people saying the same story about their terrible customer service in this thread alone I think that speaks volumes on how they treat their customers. I?ve worked in retail my entire life and that is not the correct way to do business. You don?t tell customer you?re going to fix things and then they get worse. If they continue on that path they will be out of business.

And no I won?t be shopping with them in the future. I?ve spent thousands with them in the past but after the runaround I was given, I will take my money elsewhere and not bother with them any further.

Don?t go pointing fingers at me, pal. I?m just identifying the core problem of this company. I was disrespected as were other customers by not having our concerns listened to and addressed. If that happened to you, you?d be pretty upset also.

Honestly sounds like some of these online retailers are struggling to adapt and change to the new world we live in and this is not specific to A3U at all. Again the fact they want to communicate is a huge boon in their favor but....

As soon as the floods happened I know a lot of small business's in BC that were forced to ship through Purolator and UPS because they fly ground shipments to the cities and hubs they need to go... Floods on a highway are not going to effect this. Purolator and UPS service was interrupted for a total of 2-3 days when it happened. Its really easy to keep shoving packages down a pipe you know does not work without finding another solution.

I also see a lot of these online retailers have dogshit systems when it comes to recording inventory and getting orders out. A lot of them are not big enough to afford software to streamline this.. but to give you an idea... In the power transmission business we get 40 boxes and ~2 skids a day and they get received and 50-60 orders go out before 2 o clock daily by ONE person using every courier that exists in Canada. I dont know how many orders a basic online retailer puts out in a day but perhaps the person doing it is not being effective at it? Easy to label an inefficiency as a "challenge".

Anyway my point is.... a lot of business's are thriving in the current climate while a bunch of other business are just giving excuses. You will find companies that already have your money are "struggling" and have lots of "challenges" while others that take payment or invoice after delivery of goods are operating just fine. Just because a business used to run smoothly does not mean they still will when adversity hits their door.

Sorry just an objective look at the situation. I dont have any skin in this game.

To clarify on your last point, A3U gives you the option of paying when the item is ready to ship instead of upfront like most of the other online guys.

Otherwise I get your points, but I am a customer and I haven't ever had a problem with A3U. Every order has been fine for me. So I am a supporter which some will probably see as not a very objective opinion.

I've been a customer exactly once, to grab the Takara version of Throne of the Primes - missed out on grabbing it via cons that year, figured better act while I could
must have been what, 3 years ago? anyways

I could go into detail but overall it was fine, I don't recall any great trouble/grievances about the order

What always keeps me away from A3U since then? is the higher than MSRP prices
Keeps me away from tftoys.ca too, while we're at it

EDIT -> actually I just remembered - I grabbed a Selects Tigertrack from A3U's booth @ TFCon 2021 for a flat 30 bucks - now that type of thing, I'm onboard with

It's so weird for me when you get white knights for retailers.

It actually could easily happen overnight, all they have to do is dedicate the manpower.

I appreciate the tone and the answers that A3U has given here but just because they come on and explain their side, doesn't mean that it rings true for the people who've had issues. Especially those who continue too after they've seen the response on this thread.

Your post of "don't like them, don't buy from them" is probably the last thing A3U wants out there.

A lot of people won't, to be sure but you don't have that option when you're already in the middle of a transaction that you're frustrated with, as is the case for some posting here.

It's not up to customers to stop "kicking them while they're down". It's up the A3U to get back up again.

I'd like to ask how many people who have had issues with A3U paid up front for their orders. For me, I've never paid up front. When they have the item in stock and it's waiting for me to pick up is when I have to pay. So, for me, if they don't deliver, they don't get my money, ever.

I'd like to do some compare and contrast here. Let's look at places like Amazon, TRU, Gamestop, and Walmart. I can always get a hold of someone for customer service. Heck, I can even get pretty words with lots of promises that make me feel better. Got that plenty when trying to get a hold of the Coneheads two pack. But then down the road my order gets cancelled because of reasons, and I don't get the item I ordered. Yet, people keep going back to these like a battered spouse.

With A3U, yes there have been delays. Yes, there have been issues getting responses. But at the end of the day, I've always gotten the product I ordered. Period.

I know which retailer I'll give the benefit of the doubt to, that one that comes through every time. Because at the end of the day talk is cheap. I'd rather hear nothing than a bunch of BS promising me delivery next month/week/soon.

Agreed. I've also finally hit the point where I don't have FOMO when seeing that everyone is already receiving their orders from other stores or finding figures are retail. I'm fine waiting. I know if I order from A3U or Toy Snowman or most of the other small Canadian stores (except for he who shall not be named), I'm going to get my stuff, it's going to be in great shape, and I've supported a small business. Good enough for me.

I?m a long time customer too. Shipping and stuff has been fine. My MP crosscut delivered just fine and on time. I don?t feel any worry for pre orders.

Responding to tickets has been random in speed. I found it was getting better from the really bad times, but a couple took awhile a few months ago. I was in no hurry for that email though. A recent email was answered the next day too.

If I ever feel I want an answer quickly I phone them. Which has been a convenient option and they?ve always been good. I?d recommend you do that.

They gave really good customer support for a manufacturers defective MP Thundercracker earlier this year. That stands out because I remember being worried if I?d get it and skywarp in time to send the flaps to Japan to get the coronation add on. Which I did which was also good.

Yeah. Orders won't ship until everything is in stock. I've had orders sit for quite a few months before because the in stock dates were very different. I knew that when I made the orders.

But they all arrived fine and dandy in the end.

I've found things for my pre-orders tend to trickle out over time. I pick up in store, so I can get my things as they come out. Over the years, I've never had an issue where I did not get the item I ordered. So, I just sit back and wait for them to invoice me.

Remember they send staff to the conventions and events that have been starting up again which means less staff in the store/warehouse to get other things done.

I also confirm what others have said:
1. Never had an issue getting my orders in the end (I've heard a story where they had to pay go to like BBTS to get an order fulfilled because the distributor shorted them); and

2. If it's something you need done urgently, give them a call. Weekdays during store hours are probably the best time to get through.

IMHO, you should never pay for your pre-orders up front. With A3U, you don't have to.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter when you pay for your pre-order, it matters when you put in the pre-order. If you preorder even a day later of when the pre-orders go up, you have to contend with everyone else that have already gone in before you.

Frenzy/rumble is a super popular character so pretty sure you have a lot of people who have preordered before you. Also to take into consideration that distributors will only fulfill as much as they are able to with the stock they receive. If they don't get enough - they wont give all of the product to one vendor.
Hasbro has been giving suppliers batches of lines. if you think about it a factory isnt going to produce only 5 figures at 100k runs all at once; and ship them all only when they're all done. Sales would slow down and product wouldn't get out fast enough. you'd have droughts.

From my experience, I have always received what I ordered. Sometimes it takes time to get it, but I've always gotten my stuff.

IMHO, you should never pay for your pre-orders up front. With A3U, you don't have to.

100%. A3U may be the only independent retailer that allows it. I also have had a long time with some orders there, but having been in the store many times, they're not fucking anybody about. Few weeks ago they had boxes and boxes from a huge new Hasbro delivery. It does suck when you're one of the pre-orders that didn't get filled in the first shipment. But they're not NMC Collectibles...

In regards to what ? Personally I always got my stuff with TSM, but I also experienced delay because my order didn?t get filled in the first shipment like you said. Probably what?s happening with Evo wave 1 right now, unless they haven?t received it at all yet.

Oh shit, that's a bad on my end. I meant NMC Collectibles. Toy Snowman is awesome. I don't preorder only because of upfront payment, but I have bought from them several times.

My pre-order is still pending from last June. I was supposedly in on the first volley, but somehow didn't make it.

If you want your items to ship (or pickup) as they come in, do a separate order for each item. You'll pay more for shipping, but they will come "faster".

you get to pay and pickup partial orders as they come in. i'd still do separate orders which becomes things to track or cancel if needed

Same here, but I have already opened it up. For an MP, it was relatively easy to transform. Only hiccup I had was trying to get the backpack to slide together properly.

It's pretty neat. It's interesting the extra steps and alternate directions they took compared to Siege Skyfire. Like the size changing backpack.

My problem was I had difficulties storing the spare pieces in the backpack without them constantly falling off during transformation, but I think I finally figured it out by the end. I might have scuffed a face piece though. Sigh.

Now I'm not sure how I'm going to store it though because it's too big for my current MP shelf. Time for another re-org!

Hi guys,

Have any of you ever had any issues with your coupons being applied incorrectly with A3U? How was it resolved and who did you speak with to sort it out in the end?

Thanks....

Can't say I have, but I find the best solution would be to call the store directly.
