Hey folks. Once again I am trying to set up a Transformers discussion panel at Anime North (http://www.animenorth.com) this year. Last I checked it's one (maybe two) panelists away from being confirmed as happening. If anybody is interested in helping out, and you know your stuff, please contact me: ninjatron (at) sykografix.com and let me know if you are interested. I'll fill you in on what you need to do to become a panelist. It's always a whole lot of fun and everyone is welcomed to attend. Last year's panel was a total blast.

Yes Colin, I will promote TFCon and I will hand out flyers and stuff, naturally. No problemo.

Sayonara.

What happens in panels exactly? I have no clue about these convention terms, other than the marketplace, heh.

You know what day it will be? I might be up for it.

A panel is essentially a somewhat formal discussion on the topic at hand. 3-5 panelists sit at the front of the room, and everyone shares opinions, asks questions, and so on. Last year we talked a lot about the movie (which wasn't out yet) and the new TV show (which there was very little info about). There's also talk about favorite toys, characters, moments, and whatever else fills up the hour. It's fun.

I do not know the day yet since it's not 100% confirmed whether or not it will happen, hence me asking for volunteers. The times and days of all the panels are typically not decided until just before the convention itself, so even the confirmed panels that are running don't have a set day and time yet. But I'd definitely be happy you have you on board!

depending on my schedule(I do a LOT for AN) i'll be happy to help out with the panel.

what did you want to discuss with fans at the panel? i've hosted a few TF panels during AN's in the past so am curious.

Jim

Cool. Thanks guys. Please send me an e-mail and I'll point you in the right direction.

Understand that I'm not in charge of panels, nor do I have any say in who gets to be a panelist. I am just proposing this one to the con staff. Ultimately they decide who's in, and that will most likely be a first-come-first served deal.

Stuff like reactions to the movie, current and upcoming toys, and the like would be a good start. Usually I just let the audience dictate where the panel should go and take it from there. Keep in mind that there are going to be both hardcore fans in the group and people who used to like it when they were kids. In fact, there have been times when other panelists didn't know anything that happened in Transformers from over the past 5-10 years, which isn't that exciting.

Anyway, it's all good as long as it doesn't turn into a "Such and such Transformers series sucks / G1 Forever" wankfest because that sauce is lame.

What's going on with this? Has there been any more developments?

I haven't heard anything except that panels are pretty much locked and decided now.
Communication on the organizers' part is really bad this year, in my opinion.

This is slightly OT, but is anyone here involved in Animethon?

As if someone's putting together a TF panel there, I would be game.

Sorry buddy. Looks like we got hosed. :(

I don't know what happened. The guy in charge of panels said at one point that there were more panels than slots, so some stuff obviously got cut. But the assortment of panels to pick from is, well, pretty lame IMO. Not enough of a variety. Sucks, but nothing we can do.

I'm only on one panel this year, despite proposing 5. I'm on the Japanese Horror movie panel, Sunday at 4pm. But I'm not sure how I got there since I never even asked to be on that one. So, yeah, I got hosed.

Oh well. I tried. And I'll probably try again next year. Thanks to everyone who expressed an interest, and I hope to see you at the show at some point anyway.

For those who don't know:

Seppuku (切腹, Seppuku? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Japanese) "stomach-cutting") is a form of Japanese ritual suicide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide#Ritual_suicide) by disembowelment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disembowelment).

Any relation to Pikachu? ;)

No, pikachu is a combination of two onomotopea pika - the japanese word for how a spark sounds (as in lightning), and chu - the sound of a mouse or rodent in japanese.
