That is the question!

So I just bought a MISB Masterpiece Megs from Dark_Rage (thanks again!), and I'm left with a bit of a paradox. Do I unbox it and display it nicely beside my MP Prime? Or do I leave it boxed for sheer collector value so it doesn't depreciate? I'm not much of a collector to be honest, I just happen to love the MP pieces. They're amazing "toys" (not really toys though).

What are your thoughts, guys?

I guess another option is to open it from the bottom and carefully remove it so I can at least keep it MIB, but not "new".

Argh..

IMO MPs are meant to be opened and displayed. and MP Megs looks very nice next to MP Prime.

Well I can understand keeping some stuff boxed, but it's Transformers we're talking about, they're meant to be played and fiddled with...

On some exceptions, they kick ass in box (20th Anniv. Prime, first edition) but since you can't even see Megatron from outside the package, there is no point to keep him in box. Unless you bought him specifically to re-sell it (which you seem inclined not to since you already have a place for him, besides Prime) I say go ahead and open him.

Open, display beside each other then keep the box for travel later in life i.e moving, etc.

It's been said, but true. Open and display it. It's a great display piece especially beside Prime. There's no window so you can't see it. You could technically have a MISB Brick in there...

Just buy another to keep MOC/MISB. :D

I'd open it, for the same reasons already stated above.

I regretfully don't own any MP's but from what I've seen they are incredible display and play pieces.

If I was single with a disposable income again I'd buy two, and I'd splurge and get the aftermarket upgrade kit to make the opened Megatron look more like the "Man From U.N.C.L.E." Walther P-38 (like he was meant to look).

But if you can only afford one I'd open it but maybe invest in a glass display case that you can take him in and out of.

There's nothing more annoying than visitors who come over and play with your TFs when you're in the other room.

Glad you're enjoying the MP Megs, and the dilemma, lol.

My solution is easy: Keep 1 for display and 1 for MISB!

And maybe another one for trading and what not...heh.

But seriously, if you can live without being curious about the transformation process (reading the manual online won't help), you can keep it in the box.

I am going through the same thing. I have already opened him and looked, but I am a little concerned with fiddling with him, so I have kept him in the box on a shelf. I would by crushed if I broke him.

I agree... if you want to keep it MISB you should get an extra one. It is meant to be displayed (esp. if you have MP-01/20 Anniv Prime).

That's crazy, there's a "Slippy" on that CGCC site I go to.. heh :)

Anyway, I bit the bullet and opened the box. I'm a little surprised by the lack of diecast parts compared to Prime! I suppose it's easier to support itself though, as he doesn't seem all that sturdy.

Anyway, a very cool lookin' piece, he'll look good next to Prime :D

I wonder what the next (non-repaint) MP will be.

I never looked at keeping something MISB for the price value. If I keep something MISB, it's because I like it in the box, or I want to have one that is unopened. (for example, I really like the Revoltech packaging, which is why I have an extra of the Convoy.) The dollar value does nothing for me. That's what a savings account and an investment portfolio are for. :D I just collect these things for myself regardless of the reasons why others do it, so I say just do what makes you feel happy. I know that's a bit Disney, but whatever.

The best part about transformers is the enjoyment you get from transforming the figure. So open him and enjoy...and get ready to sweat ;-)

no don't sell it, if you need one cc, and there isn't one on the boards, try here http://www.wenwentoystore.com/transformers-mp05-masterpiece-megatron-unm.html i've dealt with this guy a few times, he's reasonable, and it only takes 9 or 10 days via fedex

Oh thanks man, I just realized I mis-read the original thread. I thought this was regarding MP Ultra Magnus... doh!

In that case I would open it.

Ahhh ya crazy bugger. :D Good to know there's someone on here I recognize, at least!

Anyway, I opened him up. First off, he seems kinda flimsy compared to Prime. I think I was just spoiled by the sturdiness and articulation (and amount of diecast parts) in Prime. It's pretty hard to get Megs into poses, too. He's not very bendy.

OH! And I transformed him, it only took me a half hour.. lol. He's going back into robot mode and staying that way. ;)

Getting MP Starscream next. He look more articulate
