It's pretty shitty the fact we will have to pay double for something that cost them less to make.

Well hopefully Hasbro learns that obscure repaints can't be priced so high. This will for sure shelf warm next to YOTH Starscream. Hopefully next year they change their approach.

The toy is an exclusive for an Asian (Chinese) market. That is probably the reason for the ridiculous price. I'll bet there are only a few coming over here anyway. Hasbro can't be that out of touch...can they?

@elburrito, what is this Asian exclusive thing you refer too? If that was the case, then why is it on the TRU.com website? MP-11SW was an Asian exclusive. But this Goatwave doesnt seem like the same thing is going on. Did I miss something?

Hasbro is still plaguing the TF world with Bumblebee after all the Bayverse Bee, Prime Bee and now RID Bee. So yes they CAN be that out of touch.

There are 2 types of "Asia Exclusive". The first type is Hasbro Asia's exclusive distribution of Takara products such as MP-11SW, MP with coins, MP reissues etc. These are effectively Takara Tomy products but are distributed by Hasbro outside of Japan.

The second type are strictly Hasbro's own creations, such as all these Chinese New Year repaints and the Generations GDO from 2012-13. These products are essentially made just for China's market but Hasbro distributes them in North America as TRU exclusives.

(And that is why I have a strong feeling that Takara will likely issue MP-11SW themselves)

ok, so i'm a little confused about the YOG
is it year of the goat or year of the sheep?
cause the PO is selling YOS stamps?

Can someone enlighten me to why there are 2 different "year of's " ??

thanks

While I agree this release is a pile of dung, I don't see the price as so surprising, following TRU's 'Platinum' pricing, there is no way this release would be less than $139-49 at the least. So this price is slightly on the high side of TRU's ill-conceived platinum pricing, and I'm sure that the way TRU got over-the-top harassed by collectors over the last MP SW, they figured they could add another 30-40 bucks (similar to YOTH Prime pricing logic).

In Chinese Zodiac, the creature is 羊. The chartacter is a modern form of the stone age pictogram/hieroglyphics depicting the front view of the head of a long-horned animal. The problem with modern lazy English translation is that 羊 is used to describe a group of animal rather than one specific species. IMO the more precise translation is to use the same Latin word that is used in scientific biological classification. In this case the Latin word Caprinae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caprinae), which includes modern goats, sheeps, ram, and antelopes, etc.

It also sounds cooler if you use Latin.:p

Thanks alot, so chinese refer to it as 羊 and it isn't really a modern day animal? correct, it's just us, that have put name to it as it is translated to english.

And us English guys ( yes I'm actually english) could translate it and have a "Year of the antelope optimus primal or cheetor" :)

It's difficult to deduce exact which animal species it was but if you ask me I'd say it was more likely a goat than a sheep given the geo-biological natural history in ancient China. But who really knows?

The 12 creatures of Chinese zodiac are:

1. 鼠
lazy conventional translation: rat/mouse
It could be any type of Muroidea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muroidea)

2. 牛
lazy conventional translation: cow/ox
It could be any type of Bovinae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bovinae)

3. 虎

Ok it's just tiger (Panthera tigris)

4. 兔

5. 龍
conventional translation: dragon. Ok it's DRAGON (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_dragon).

6. 蛇
lazy conventional translation: snake
Serpentes sound cooler.

7. 馬
lazy conventional translation: horse
Equus sounds cooler.

8. 羊

Already explaned.

9. 猴
lazy conventional translation: monkey
It could be any Old World Monkey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_World_monkey)

10. 雞
lazy conventional translation: chicken
It could be any type of Phasianinae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phasianinae). But you know it's really a cock.:p

11. 狗
lazy conventional translation: dog

12. 豬

Okay I guess that makes sense but then why pair it with that clear milky white plastic? There's plenty of other colors that could work better with it.

Depends on what's mean by "better" and what their intentions were.

If their intentions were to make it look like the toy was rolled in a bucket of jizz then dipped in poop, mission accomplished.

Hahahah! He is easily one of the best MPs! He is worth 189.99. I only paid $120 luckily. I'm glad other people caught this.

MP Soundwave and the tapes are probably the best MP release to date. Goatwave is a vile creation though (although the tapes look great, thanks DuG for hooking me up)
