I was going through some old stuff of mine and came accross this. I must have owned it since I was a kid but don't remember it. Anyway it has a strangely modern story about the dangers of environmental degradation (brought about by Megatron of course).

What really caught my eye though were the drawings, clearly based on the toys and showing no resemblance to the G1 cartoon or to Marvel comics (except the first couple of issues). Does anyone know anything about this? Were there more? This is pure curiosilty on my part.

I've attached some images so you can see what I'm talking about.

Looks like the drawings are based on the toys

I love how in the first one you could interpret it as Optimus throwing a twister at his enemy XD

Plus their Soundwave is mistransformed XD

I think I used to have a TF book from that line as well, only it was about the dinobots helping to stop Megatron from digging tunnels under the Arctic or some such.

I distinctly remember how toy accurate the characters were. Megatron and Ratchet had all the aspects of their toy versions while we see Slag in dino mode on his back with his robot pieces exposed. :D

All I can tell you is that they came with either a record or tape. Kids learn to read with these books.

I know I have 2 of them, but I only remember of the titles...Satellite of Doom.

Thanks everyone, I'd just never heard of these books and was really surprised when I saw it. I remember a lot of stuff from my childhood, but this: complete blank. Unfortunately I don't think I have the tape.

Thanks for posting this link! It's really interesting to see these books and how they differ from the way the transformers were developed in the cartoon, even though the copyrights are dated 1985 to 1986.

They are basically drawings of the toys (sometimes mis-transformed); autobots can fly; there are many more dinobots than just the main five; there are autobot "superjets" lead by Skyfire; Soundwave doesn't use his tv speech pattern; different personalities; and others.

The last one listed there, "The Great car Rally", is interesting because it uses the character models from the tv series (mostly) and is dated before the others, at 1984,1985.

Ha, yeah I have the Satellite of Doom somewhere as well. Wow, looking back, that's some terrible aesthetics. I hope they fired the artist. I notice they reused art...

This thread is useless because you forgot to attach the .wav file.

FAIL!!!

jk

Anyways, I wonder if there's a market for stuff like this? Well, no tape or record (duh!)...but perhaps an app or even a chip in the book.

It would be cool to see the modern art used for an updated version of books like these. Unfortunately, I think Animated would have been perfect for an updated version of this product for kids.

Is that the one where it implies that Megs kills all the human miners during the production of the diamond? He says something about "their carbon will be added to the diamond" or something...

Oh, I never actually read it, but looks like it's on youtube... laughably bad voice work too. Although Megs sounds like Mumra :D

EDIT: Yeah you are right Megs did kill the miners to create a large diamond with the other carbon :D
