So What's ShelfLife? (Yes, Beta is still open.)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7018/6397626047_a0ccf5bd2a.jpg

ShelfLife is a new and innovative collection management and e-commerce platform for collectors. And we need your help. ShelfLife is running an exclusive Beta launch from Nov-Feb 2012, open only to Cybertron.ca members. Join the beta test and you can record your collections, make want lists, and help build out our data by curating catalogs.

We're offering sweet prizes for our Beta Testers, and participation will carry permanent bonuses throughout 2012 and beyond!

The current site functionality is just the tip of a very exciting iceberg. The North American launch of the site will be Feb 2012, with our e-commerce launch in spring 2012.

ShelfLife is the creation of Cybertron.ca member FaustX/James Chillcott and his partners.

Read on for the full story.

Of, if you're ready to sign up go to www.shelflifex.com (http://www.shelflifex.com).

The Full Story:

As many of you already know, I've been working with partners and curators for the better part of a year on a very exciting project. It’s been intense, but we’re finally ready to peel back the curtain to let you all in on what will be an exciting moment for Cybertron.ca as a community, and soon, for collectors worldwide.

I present to you, ShelfLife: The Ultimate Collector's Platform.

From November 28th at 10am until February 20th, 2012 we held an invite-only Beta for ShelfLife. The Beta was only open only to Cybertron.ca members and select industry types. As of Feb 12/2012 however the site is now open to all collectors worldwide for further beta testing!

Why should you care?

Quite simply, ShelfLife is designed to solve many of the problems we encounter as collectors. The elevator pitch is that ShelfLife is a hybrid of Wikipedia and eBay for collectors...but it's actually much more than that.

For the Beta, the site has two major functionality sets: Collection Management and Curation.

Collection Management allows you to review the details of your favourite Transformers (and other collectibles) catalogs and record what you have, where you bought things, how much you paid, and when. Our detailed parts tracking system allows you to get incredibly granular about what you have and the condition of each toy. You can also denote that you want something, the details of that desire, and how much you're willing to pay for it. You're definitely going to want to do this, because what comes next is going to be pretty great.

Once the Beta is complete and we're satisfied that we’ve worked the kinks out of the core collecting and curation tools, we’ll be launching our e-commerce functionality and enabling the ability to buy and sell collectibles with an efficiency and precision never before seen. With a database full of Beta Wants and Haves, we'll automatically match buyers and sellers and notify you accordingly...all without you having to wait on auctions, check endless online lists, or waste gas checking a dozen retail stores. Monthly budgeting features and different levels of purchase commitment will enable unparalleled flexibility in your collecting habits.

If you're widely travelled in the online collecting world, you'll notice similarities between pieces of our site and many other sites. Don’t let this fool you. The long term plan for ShelfLife is quite unique, and I can personally guarantee you that this is a community you will want to be in on the ground floor with.

[B]Beta Tester Duties

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7025/6397801661_3d5eee0ed9_z.jpg

As a member of the Open Beta test, your main responsibility is to use the site as much as you possibly can.

Generally, we think you'll see that the site is pretty cool, but we're still young and evolving all the time as the collectors we aim to serve provide feedback on how to improve the user experience. There're bound to be bugs, and we're very interested in your perspectives on how to take it from cool to indispensible. We're chasing the dream of making the perfect collecting platform first, and profits are a distant second, so tell us what you want and you just might get it.

In summary, we need you guys to do the following during the Beta:

1) Tell us what’s in your collection using the Have buttons on every catalog and product page. You can also use the H shaped Mass Have button to add an entire catalogue all at once!

2) Tell us which toys you want and how much you’d pay for them with the Want buttons.

3) Contribute missing product details and photos so that we can get closer to completing our insane goal of documenting every collectible on the planet.

Many of us have tons of photos lying around that we’ve used to sell our toys in the past. Donating these en masse to ShelfLife is one of the biggest things you can do to help the community. If you have a pile of photos that you’re too lazy to upload into ShelfLife, send'em to us zipped up, or request Dropbox access, and we’ll make it easy for you to help make the catalogues look their best.

4) Tell us of features you need, what's confusing, and what doesn't work as expected. You can send us feedback here, via the emails below, or using the Feedback button on ShelfLife.

5) Customize your main navigation in the left column of ShelfLife by clicking the pink Subscribe button in the top-right corner of catalog, product, and search pages.

6) If you're feeling ambitious or want to play a more important role in the community, apply be a curator. Details are a bit lower down.

ShelfLife can easily become the best thing that ever happened to collectors online, but we need your help to really live the dream. We won’t have time to chase you all down, so please do your best to put some time aside and really get to know the site and send feedback.

Contests

Our current contest is called King of Customs and you can learn all about it over here: http://www.cybertron.ca/boards/showthread.php?t=37982&highlight=king+customs

To summarize, TF customizers are competing to make the best version of our character Ghost Circuit, and the fans are competing to win the best custom!

Participation is pretty simple and happens automatically when you use ShelfLife and do things to support the site. Every time you do something useful within ShelfLife, you earn tickets. At the end of the contest, we'll randomly enter your name into a draw, once for each of your tickets, and name the winner(s).

Generally speaking, one of our biggest goals is to make collecting as inexpensive, hassle-free, and fun as possible. Part of how we will support this goal is by making ShelfLife free for collectors, even past the Beta period. Sound good? Here’s how it'll work:

- Buying is always free. You'll never pay a hidden 10% buyers fee again!
- Selling is free for your first 2 sales/month, or your first 10/year.
- Beyond that, selling is planned at 8%, 2% of which will go to the curator of the catalog in question.
- Want to sell your product somewhere else and record that sale on ShelfLife to update your collection? No problem.

Better eBay + Better Wikipedia + No Cost. Not a bad deal, eh?

All Beta participants will also get a ShelfLife Beta Tester badge in their accounts. What’s this badge do? I can’t reveal that just yet, but you’ll be bragging about it soon.

Curators

Wait, so what’s a curator?

Curators are very much like forum mods or Wikipedia editors. Curators build catalogs within ShelfLife. They fill in product and part details, upload photos, and write descriptions and comments for their catalogs. In return, they gain the right to charge relevant sellers a 2% levy when a product they curated is sold within ShelfLife.

Catalogs can take anywhere from 20min to a few hours to build, depending on your level of knowledge and the availability of photos. I’ve been doing it for months, and it’s pretty easy if you know the products and turn on the TV while you plug away.

You can curate from within ShelfLife using our super-detailed curation tools, or fill in a custom spreadsheet that we’ll provide if you prefer your data entry in big chunks. Curators are assigned one catalogue at a time. If you want to stake out some huge territory for yourself, you just need to move fast and get one done. We’re focusing on getting the Transformers stuff done for now, but if you want to do something else, let us know and we’ll get you set up.

You can learn more about curation here: http://www.cybertron.ca/boards/showthread.php?t=36653

And see a video about How To Be A ShelfLife Curator here: http://vimeo.com/shelflife/how-to-be-a-shelflife-curator

What Catalogues Do You Have So Far?

The ShelfLife Beta includes dozens of catalogues from:

Transformers
Marvel UNiverse
Star Wars
GIJOE
Masters of the Universe
Lego
Gobots
Rocklords
Designer Vinyl
Kidrobot
Barbie (Not that you guys care, LOL)

By the end of the Beta, we aim to have all of the Transformers catalogs completed, and another 150 catalogs in place of other types. Within 3 months, we aim to have over 200 additional catalogs. The more catalogs there are in ShelfLife, the better it gets, so do your part: become a curator and earn some coin towards your future grails!

As an extra bonus for the Beta, the most active curator will receive a custom mounted G1 Insecticon, as shown here. If they really blow us away, we might upgrade that to a mounted G1 Megatron.

And yes, curators will be included in the prizes mentioned earlier, and their curation activities will get them twice as many tickets!

Who's Behind ShelfLife?

My name is James Chillcott (aka FaustX).

I’ve spent the last 10 years running Advoca, an interactive agency with clients on 5 continents. In short, I know a ton about what makes web sites great.

I also happen to be a very prolific collector of Transformers, Star Wars, GIJOE, Japanese Kaiju, Designer Vinyl, Skateboards and Rock Art. eBay pisses me off, and I think we deserve a better playground. ShelfLife is designed to be the solution.

My partners are Nick Hoffman (CTO & Ruby Guru) and Hilary Gillespie (Design/HTML). They are serious collectors in their own right and experts in their fields.

In case you care, ShelfLife is being self-funded by our team at present, but we are also seeking external investment through participation in the MaRS Discovery District here in Toronto. If we line up further funding in the next few months, things will explode. If we don’t, the project will continue to grow and improve, but at a more measured pace. No matter what, we’re in this for the long haul. This is a passion project as much as a business and we won’t rest until it's perfect.

Spread the word!

ShelfLife is currently working out partnerships with dozens of fan sites, customizers, manufacturers and media teams. To really amp things up we need your help to spread the word.

Mentioning ShelfLife and linking to our home page (www.shelflifex.com) is worth 100 entries in whatever our current contest is so please spread the word, tell all your friends and start discussion threads across the web to help us grow.

Otherwise, please follow us on Facebook, Twitter and sign up for our newsletter when you register on the site to keep informed.

What if I’m a vendor?

We really want to talk to you. We have huge plans for making inventory management within ShelfLife your ultimate tracking system. If you want to have a hand in shaping that, you need to join the Vendor Beta Program separately. Email us at vendors@shelflifex.com , and we’ll be in touch ASAP.

Providing Feedback

During the Beta, you'll be able to report problems on specific pages within the site, or simply email us at everyone@shelflifex.com

For the duration of the Beta, I'll also be making my phone (416-423-9265) and Skype (faustx06) available for anyone who wants to chat about the project and provide feedback first hand. This is your chance to influence the future of collecting online, so make sure you use it before we the gates open to the world in January!

We're working very hard to get ready for launch, but feel free to post your questions, comments, or concerns in this thread before and during the Beta. We’ll be checking daily and providing insight and assistance wherever we can. We're building this for all of us.

Still have questions?

No problem. Ask them here or from our on-site feedback buttons, and we’ll do our best to answer them promptly.

Question for you, can a regular user be a curator, or add to a collection library without becoming a curator? Just wondering. :)

At present regular users can flag problems on product pages and make suggestions to curators. They can also donate photos. To take control of a product or catalogue you need to sign up as a curator, but it doesn't need to be a big catalogue.

It's like you read our minds. Lego for sure.

We've been working on how Lego products would be built out. Like you said, tracking each individual item in a product would be a lot of work. However, there're probably ways that we can automate that part of it with some fancy code.

Guess we didn't make this clear. ShelfLife will eventually house a record of every collectible ever made. If you want to curate Star Wars, no problem, just follow instructs above.

Personally, I'll be wrapping up a few TF catalogues and then working on a bunch of rare, weird catalogues that will never make us any money.

For the fans, by the fans, people!

Absolutely. Please do get in touch. You can either sign up as a curator to participate directly or just donate your data and images to the cause so that we can get it in place. Process and contact info for all that and the start of the thread.

Generally, if any of you have piles of images lying around from msg board threads and/or ebay listings, etc, and don't consider them art you need to protect IP on, we'd love to give you somewhere to upload them so we can pass them on to relevant curators.

Eureka.

We're going to work out a way to make mass entry of entire catalogues into your collections even easier this week. Picture a HAVE button that leads to a 30s interaction in an overlay and lets you denote that "yes, I have everything in the DOTM set". You can then work backward from there to remove the few products not in the collection, adjust purchase price, etc.

This will save us a TON of time collectively.

On it...

Hey everybody,

We've assembled the list of Cybertron members that have provided us with emails via launch@shelflifex.com. Thanks for sending those emails folks.

However, there is a shortlist of people who said they wanted in, but didn't send their emails to us. If you are on this list, please get in touch Monday so we can get hooked up...remember, every action within the system counts for prize credits that increase your chances of winning your grail.

Sidebar: Don't even think about faking actions within the system for credits. Not only will we be watching carefully, but doing so will be grounds for a banning none of us will ever want to be subject to. Be fair, have fun and help us make this the greatest site ever made for collectors.

Hey razin. Are you in Buy or Collect Mode?

In Buy Mode, all products in a catalog are shown.

Good question. All of the catalogs that're on the site have curators. Most missing catalogs don't have a curator, though a couple, like KRE-O, have a curator and are in the process of being built.

What piques your interest?

Here is a list of Transformers catalogues currently unassigned that we would like to complete during the Beta:

Alternators
Japanese G1
European G1
Generation 2
Beast Machines
Beast Wars
Beast Wars 10th Anniversary
Marvel Crossovers
Star Wars Crossovers
Commemorative Series
Titanium
Transformers: The Movie
IGEAR
Impossible Toys
Perfect Effect
TFC Toys
Henkei

We're also wide open for all sorts of other forms of collectibles that we haven't added yet. MOTU, Star Wars, Thundercats, etc. And stuff outside the toy realm, including video games, skateboard decks, comics/graphic novels and TCGs.

Thanks to all the new curators that signed up today, we're looking forward to getting you your upgraded access tomorrow and adding more curators throughout the beta!

Remember, curation is a great route to building up prize tickets and you get to share in transaction revenues down the road, so jump in while your favourite catalogue is still up for grabs.

Hi James! So far so good with the website.

Question, is there a way to have you wants separate from your collection? Possibly adding a folder tab, one for 'Collection' and a second one for 'Wants'.

I understand each thumbnail has a label as either a want or have in your collection. This can get confusing later down the road as a user's collection of wants and haves grow.

Having fun with it so far, but I didn't see a spot to give feedback on the actual site. Maybe Firefox just wasn't showing it? Also noticed that the flash banner that shows the "Learn More" banner and the "Survey" banner weren't clickable, at least through Firefox.

As a note, in the "Have" tab, it might be nice to have a option to list it as received as a gift. I just keep marking that in the "Where you Got it From" area at $0.00. :)

DOTM Curator hasn't completed their Items build out yet. Catalogues can go live without them but we'd like curators to finish them up by completing items ASAP. This was an internally created catalogue so if someone wants to take on finishing DOTM and take a short cut to some good prize tix, lets us know.

Pretty sure I can guess the issue.

Currently if you are in Collect mode and then you use the side nav to get to Animated, you'll find no products because you haven't recorded any.

To get to the catalogue, click Buy mode button first, then use the sidenav to get there.

I just checked, they loaded fine.

We'll be making 2 changes to ease this pain shortly:

1) Ensuring that collection follows you from Buy to Collect mode and back properly.

2) Updating the mega menu to ensure it is in sync with the side nav.

Just a few thoughts of what I hope is constructive criticism:

The catalogs can be seen in their entirety in "Buy" mode but not in "Collect" mode. In collect mode you have to search for each individual bot (or at least I seem to). I assume I'm either missing something or this is being worked on?

I can easily add a second of the same bot without knowing if I already have one. I either want some method to see my personal collection as I've so far entered it so I can remember what I've already entered or to have the system tell me when I click on "have" that I've already entered one of this bot from this series. This is not such a problem now but once I get to bot 500 I'll forget some of what I've already done, especially if I'm doing the data entry in little batches because I have limited time.

People may disagree with me here but if I click on "loose" to describe how complete an item is I'm not sure "mint" should be the default descriptor for condition. Is there some way to tie the default descriptors to the choice made about completeness? I know I will be tempted just for the sake of time to leave the descriptor at "mint" when it probably isn't. Given part of the goal of this site is buying and selling that may not be for the best.

Not trying to be picky here but is their a real qualitative difference between "near mint" and excellent? Would not a loose toy be best described as "good" and maybe dispense with "excellent" as a choice?

Likewise there is too much of a jump between "good" and "poor". Perhaps we should add the word "fair" I would use this to describe a bot which is all there and transforms well but has loose joints. Perhaps we also need some sort of guidelines as to what these terms mean on ShelfLife, Unless people agree there is universal standard for good, poor, etc? This might help transactions if people were reasonably sure they would grade a bot the same way as a seller.

I was in "buy" mode, it brings up the Animated section, but no listings. It only shows the "featured product" - Prowl. Beyond that, nothing.
Tried in a different browser as well. No different. Weird.

Razin,

Can we get a screenshot (including your url bar) of that and a confirmation on your browser version please? I just checked on PC Chrome and Firefox and it worked fine.

the style and colors of use in the ad banner and logo makes it appear as though it is some form of dating site or female oriented service.

HELP. ok i'm in the beta and I've logged as many of my "haves" and "wants" as I am able. It was necicary to do manual searches or browse the "buy" section as the drop down "browse catagories" bar does not seem to link to anything.

I am also interested in curating the TFP secton but the "learn more" button is non functional.

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks.

EDIT: I'm also having trouble uploding pictures to the products that have none, I select an appropriate image but the "upload a photo" screen just keeps processing forever.

Likewise can we get a browser, OS, screenshot form you to everyone@shelflifex.com?

Thanks!

lol, haven't you heard that real men wear pink!

but seriously, we totally get that the transformer crowed would respond to something more badass. ShelfLife however has to have broad appeal.

However, I will say this: we have plans for artist driven custom skins for various high level catalogues and Transformers is absolutely on that list!

This might help transactions if people were reasonably sure they would grade a bot the same way as a seller.

Hey there,

First off, thanks for the feedback. Allow me to summarize:

1) Upgrades to Collect mode will be released this week. (Covered earlier in this thread.)

2) Condition values are being taken from industry standard lists. Let us get past a bit of the other stuff, and we'll circle back and share our thoughts with all of you on this. If you take a look at the AFA grading site however you'll get a good sense of where we're going. You'll ultimately be able to use multiple grading systems and they'll be an equivalency table with definitions.

3) We're going to leave default for out of package as mint. However, when you go to sell something in January, you'll be asked to confirm everything again and the buyer will be able to ask questions AND you'll be required to provide a pic of what you're selling to cover the bases.

Hasbro Masterpiece only has Skywarp in it (similar to animated).

I've also seen some empty catalogues though, like Transformers G2, Star Wars, etc....not sure if that's intended or not.

We hate IE because it's such a buggy and incompliant browser. However, we're doing our best to support it.

Hilary's taking care of this problem right now. Thanks for reporting it.

In the meantime, you can login at http://shelflifex.com/account/login

I can't get either of these too work for the Login. I've got a Windows Internet Explorer(I assume thats what IE stands for). All I get is a "error on page" message near my task bar each time I try.

Is this a website problem or is my computer just being silly(which is a possibility)?

I'd really prefer an input system where you could view a catalog and select all the items you have. Then at a later date, if you so desire, you could then go through your collection and fill in the details. Having to go through each figure and click "have", "loose", "mint"... blah blah blah. It's rather annoying and time consuming. And really, it's the major reason why I only input about 5% of my collection at Shmax.com.

I'm trying to give it my best effort to input more for you guys here but at this point, I'm finding it no better than the other site.

Not trying to sound all negative, just trying to offer my opinion.

agreed, it took me a few months to add my collection at shmax lol, i'm going faster here, but still, take for example animated, if there was a "have all" button, i'd be done in a couple mins, or a "have all sealed" "have all loose" etc type thing, would be nice, i know for a few of the collectors on here, one click would save a lot of time

It'd also be nice to be able to add figures individually without having to go through the pop-up window (or have an option in the pop-up to say "fill in details later" or something. If I only have 1/4 of a catalog, I dont want to have to select the entire catalog then deselect 3/4 of it.

I'd also like to see the collection page displayed differently, or at least be able to customize it. I'd like to be able to see what categories I have figures in on a whole instead of having the click through 15 menus to pin point a category to see how many or which figures I have in that specific category. (I could probably explain this better in person/on the phone).

Just tried it out. Took a bit to figure out the catalogs are under the buy section. Once I found that, I found data entry easy. How useful is the price which I paid? I really have no idea what I've paid for most bots or where I may have picked them up. Some stick out because they were great deals or bought from a Cybertron.ca board member.

It would be nice to see a customizer/parts section in the future. I have boxes full of bots and 1/2bots, missing heads, arms, legs. Loose incomplete doesn't even come close to describing these guys.

My only other concern(customers don't have complaints, only concerns right?) is the pink color as mentioned before. Maybe the barbie collectors love it, but it just feels wrong. If you need help with graphics let me know, I would love to help if I can.

I love the "have" label that apears on picture of a toy after I've added it, it helps me know where I've left off when I come back later. The only problem I have is it doesn't automatically update after I enter a new bot, I have to refresh the page to see that change. This was a problem when I was entering Dinobots, I couldn't remember who I'd just entered. Is it supposed to automatically update or is this another IE browser issue?

I may be flogging a dead horse here but I'm also finding it a bit difficult to hit the "all" key when entering a bot and then having to change everything individually from "mint" to something else. I know that a new batch method of data entry is comming but could there just be a "change all to good" key or something? Even better would be an option to list everything except instructions as I was good at keeping my stuff but rarely have instructions for my G1s. This may just be personal to me though.

I think the method to browse catalouges needs to be stream lined and made a bit more visable on the sight. It took me a while to figure out how to find the catalouges and than how to search through them. I also think a help menu or tutorial page to help out new users should be created in case someone gets stuck or lost.

Other than that I really like the premise of the site and really look forward to more catalouges to be added.

I have some suggestions:

I would like to see the catalogues as a drop down menu off the main page, for example

Transformer
>G1

>Classics
>Etc...

It would make it easier.

Also if we are logged in and click HAVE it should just add it without asking us if we have it Sealed or loose or whatever, unless I am selling it, those are details I do not need to enter right away. Given I am using this more as an online list with pictures and have no intention of selling what I have right now, those extra steps are a pain in the ass.

I also do not like that when I went to the Masterpiece list and added the Hasbro Masterpieces I had to add them again when I went to the classics and universe pages. That should be automatic.

I do like the general look and how the rest of it works, it seems like a fantastic idea and I am glad to be apart of it, I hope my suggestions help.

In order:

- Sales price is optional but will come in very handy indeed if you decide to sell the object in question when we turn on e-commerce in January. The other thing to remember is that we plan to significantly upgrade your Collect tab to include all sorts of stats about your collection including total price paid, total market value, and opportunities to sell things you have not rated being happy with but have anyway.

- Junkers won't get attention until a bit down the road. Too many variables.

- Lol, we knew you guys were going to react negatively to pink in some cases, but it's really not a color for ladies only at this point. Think Flickr or Kidrobot as other examples. Nevertheless, we are planning on working with key artists to develop skins for high level catalogues and that will include TFs. If you have interface design experience and happen to be a fantastic TF illustrator, we look forward to your email with portfolio links.

Can we get some light shading or a heading or something to make it easier to identify the left hand menu as a menu? I kept thinking the only menu was the one at the top. Which I don't like very much. I much prefer the functionality of the menu on the left - once I found it. Also maybe the "up one level" arrow could be displayed all the time, as I found myself forgetting how to navigate back up a level.

I agree default view for collect mode should probably be a list of icons representing categories you own figures in, rather than just showing all the figures at the "root" level.

P.S. Not sure if it's still true but yesterday the menu at the top and on the side have different options (I think top was missing some transformer categories like G2.

Was on yesterday inputting my stuff, found it very easy. Did have some trouble inputting RTS Solar Storm Grapple and Lugnut. Took 2 attempts: the first attempt seemed to be stuck or seriously lagging, 2nd try did the trick.

Also, for price paid, is it possible to make it so a range can be inputted (i.e. $6-$10)? I know it can't now, but is that something that could be changed? I can't remember exact prices on some items, and a price range would be a nice option to have.

Otherwise, enjoying the site very much!

Oh, and I think the pink in the logo is fine. Dunno why people don't like it.

We'd love to do that, and it sounds like an easy thing to change. Unfortunately, there're some massive technical hurdles involved in supporting a range rather than a specific number.

If you can't remember exactly how much you paid, you can make an estimate.

Wooo! Thanks, dude. We love to hear that.

Rock on. I've never been a pink sort of guy, but I love our colours. Glad to hear you're on board, too.

I would love to see a printer friendly version of your collection list, to keep for your records.

Well I subbed to some TF catalogues and that's about it. Are there no entries up yet?

Pink is hot. Seriously, it doesn't bother me at all. Granted I would like to see some more TF art, but overall it looks fine.

Marketplace features will launch at the public launch in early January. We are very excited for how this will take this whole thing to entirely other level.

Great idea, but we won't stop there. We'll also be releasing a sharing tool to allow you to publish your collection as a photo gallery and via social media like Facebook and Twitter. Just need some time to pull it all together. This stuff will be targeted for the Jan launch.

Not sure what you mean. Explain?

Agreed!

Also, would it be possible to have some notation to show whether or not the items in your collection were "complete" or not? Maybe a little Green "C" in the upper right corner if they're complete, and a red "I" if they're incomplete? It would be nice to be able to glance at an image and now if I'm missing accessories.

On that, you should probably add some features to "manually" mark something as complete, say in the case of someone who doesn't collect instructions for their figures, and doesn't want them all to show up as incomplete when - as far as they're concerned - they are complete.

Greater colour contrast between "wants" and haves would be great. I understand that they're on different sides and all, but when looking in my collection it would be nice if in addition if they stood out a little more than being different shades of blue.

That said, we also likely need a sort function, or a quick button to show us "just wants" or "just haves". Maybe you could turn the little summary of "wants" and "haves" at the top (i.e. You have X wants in Y catalogues) into such a link when you click it. That way I can view all my wants at once.

All good stuff, and most of this is in motion already. Stay tuned.

Just a thought here but will we be able to toggle on and off items on our want list? My list will be pretty large and cash isn't always as free flowing as I would like so I would like to be able to have say three items out of a list of hundreds that are actively being matched to a seller. A Priority selection would also be quite handy!

Sorry, I just keep seeing little things and posting as I do.

For some of the botcon sets, and other sets with multiple "instructions" can we have some notation as to which "instruction" belongs to which bot? Especially now when there are no pictures, it would be helpful to make sure I'm selecting the right "instructions" for my bot.

i.e. I have Botcon G2 Breakdown (classics) but not the rest of the box set. Which of the items listed as "instructions" (parts 16 through 20) are the instructions for breakdown, versus the other guys?

Don't be sorry! Keep the suggestions flowing. That's the best way to ensure that ShelfLife grows in the best way.

That's a good point. I think the best solution for this is to update the instructions' names to include the name of the TF it belongs to. Eg: "Breakdown Instructions".

I'd love to use this site more on my iPod touch, but it won't allow me to add a 'have' since the window that opens is too far out of my viewing screen that I can't even move the screen or zoom out enough to actually select 'have'.

Another reason it would be nice to simply be able to select 'have' and maybe a quick confirm yes or no. Or even an option on the pop-up window to say 'yes I have this but I'd prefer not to have to add details atm'. Although that last bit would still only work for me while on my computer.

Just a heads up everybody. We've moved the curator activity over to a separate thread and provided a video to show how it works for everyone that was asking. Video isn't perfect, but it should cover 90% of what you might ask. Please post your curation questions to the below thread now or email us at curate@shelflifex.com.

I just finished logging in all that I have as far as what you have available. I apologize if any of these items have been mentioned already, but would there be any way to show a tally of what we have in our private collections compared to what is the content of the entire line. As well, when the time comes for this to be open to anyone, will we have the ability to allow other members that we have authorized to full view our individual collections?

So far, this site is very impressive. Congratulations on this Masterpiece so far.

Wants will have 3 levels of priority when we launch e-commerce. The 1st will be notification only, so no worries.
