Bruticus82

You have 14 days for a price adjustment without getting a hassle at TRU.

You have 45 days to return items according to the receipt.

So if it's been between 14 and 45 days, you might have to buy extras then walk over to the other line and return them on your old receipt. Just make sure the scan # matches (ie. Generations and HFTD have different #s I think.).

Mind you, I don't konw if TRU sees price adjustments up to 45 days as "abusive" or not. They say on those return slips that they'll monitor your activity and they may decide to ban you from future refunds if they think you're abusing their policy. But I think that's targeted more to people returning without receipts.

can you return out of the box transformers if you still have the box? sorry its just that i've never been in a situation like this.

You can get a price adjustment by just bringing in the receipt, no box necessary, as long as you're within the 14 day period. I've done it several times.

If you want the price adjustment but it's after 14 days (but within the 45 day return period) the easiest thing to do is this:

1. Go buy a new transformer at the sale price, identical to the one you have at home that you paid full price for.
2. Walk over to customer service with your new transformer, and your old receipt (non-sale price).
3. Return the toy, say your cousin already had one or something similar.
4. Walk out with your refund.

You've now essentially paid sale price for the one at home. It's the same effect as a price adjustment except you have 45 days to do it. Although again, I will note that I have no idea if TRU considers this abusive or not. If you start doing this en masse for dozens of toys every year, they might get upset and ban you from future refunds. I wish we had a TRU Q & A thread so we could ask them...

If you're actually trying to return one for some reason (it has two left hands, etc.) I think you need original packaging and all the original accessories etc. It helps if you tell them why you're returning (what's wrong with it.).

I don't see how it's cheating if you're doing everything entirely within their posted policies. They could easily avoid this by making their return and price adjustment terms the same length, say 30 days for both.

Just curious, would you see it any differently if you did this:

1. Buy one at regular price, keep it MISB.
2. Head there during a sale, receipt in hand, and return it.
3. Walk over to the shelves, wait for the customer service reps to restock the shelves with the item you just returned, buy it on sale, and walk out with it again.

a bit over the 14 days limit. Hopefully they won't too much trouble.

Can't exactly buy and return an animated Rodimus unless they got them on the shelf.

Nope, same cheating. Not in the spirit of basic society trade.

It's Definitely legal per the written rule, but I'd hate to live in a world where we are all acting like New York lawyers. Especially regarding something that deserves our respect as Transformers does.

Today I went to my local TRU and saw that there are lots of bots that I want on the pegs, so I returned many of my MISB figs purchased over the last month at regular prices. I plan to head there first thing in the morning to buy them back at sale price. I figure since I returned them today, when there are no sale signs, it's not cheating. Plus I take the risk that within opening minutes all those bots are gone... highly unlikely since they are multiples of all bots I returned on pegs.

Agreed!

During my last price match/adjustment at the Customer Service counter last year, the assistant manager/supervisor "lectured" me a bit before processing the refund. She stressed that they normally do not do price adjustments, but will process my request as a "courtesy".

I just "grinned and beared it". I was tempted to argue back, but I bit my tongue instead. I just wanted to get my refund and run! :p I didn't want my day ruined from engaging in a verbal fight with the manager.

I considered employing your trick last year if the manager refused my price adjustment. I was even planning to "lecture" her about what I was prepared to do to get what I want! :D

That's funny, because when I called my store up to ask what their price adjustment policy was they told me straight up 14 days, and I've never had an issue with a price adjustment within the 14 day period...

Yeah. :o

I considered employing your trick last year if the manager refused my price adjustment. I was even planning to "lecture" her about what I was prepared to do to get what I want! :D

except this one time, when they refused to give me a price adjustment on star wars figures because it was "Buy 1 get one half off" on "Saturday only". So I was there on the Saturday, with my receipt, and they said they couldn't give it to me because I hadn't bought them on Saturday. "No problem" I said, I walked over to the star wars isle, checked out with 2 figures, then walked back over to the return aisle and returned those two figures to the same person on my old bill. I explained to them what I did, and at first they were concerned that they had to keep those two toys aside for me so I could repurchase them (actually helping me out) but then I explained that they didn't need to do that, and just process the refund, and so they did.

They didn't seem to have any issue with it, then again they are just front line staff and are probably trained to be helpful...or at least the ones at my location are.

The problem I see with TRU BOGO sales and price adjusting is how it screws with people that show up the day the sale starts only to find the shelves empty, because everyone bought them the day before to price adjust them later.

The fault lies in a couple ways with TRU itself, but I'd be happy to see them get rid of the policy of price adjustments and returns of that sort, but thats dreaming.

Really all it does is cost TRU money so they wouldn't be losing out on anything, though the people jumping the sale would:p

That said they could also solve the situation by putting out sale product on the day it goes on sale.

I mean be honest, sale or not everyone was going to buy Animated Rodimus and Ironhide - Now lots of folks want a price adjuctment when there are none left on the shelf.

While it might not be breaking any laws, or even corporate policies, something about this doesn't sit quite right with me.

Bruticus82
09-17-2010, 09:10 AM
Well, the reason why price adjustment policies exist to begin with is that persons who bought product X at $Y were very upset when a sale began the next day, or the next week even, and they couldn't take advantage of it. What would happen of course is that individuals would simply return and repurchase their merchandise, especially where such merchandise was not scarce (like shoes, clothes, vacuum cleaners, toasters, etc.).

So stores, rather that processing all those returns and repurchases, introduced price adjustment periods, where, if the product goes on sale shortly after you purchased it, they will do a price adjustment rather than a full refund/repurchase.

It's not like price adjustment policies, or even refund policies are mandated by government. It's the store's choice to introduce them.

Yes, that means people can, and do, show up on Thursday evening, buy products, and then get a price adjustment on Friday.

Again, I should note that companies like TRU process every return and price adjustment into a database that keeps track of each individual, and they have the right to ban individuals from returns/exchanges/price adjustments where they think the individual is abusing their system.

The real question is what constitutes abuse in their books. I think they're more worried about people buying products on clearance at Wal-mart and returning them to TRU for store credit than they are about people getting price adjustments.

Kitchener TRU has modified the "Deluxe Sale" sign posted at the TFs to say *Prices as Marked and they've clearly marked HFTD and Gen Deluxes at the sale price but TFA Deluxes remain at $15.99.

On the plus side I did get a price adjustment on my Wave 1 Gen figures from 3 weeks ago without a hitch, and in fact with a smile and pleasantness. The receipt says nothing about 15 days for price adjustments, so maybe its a store-to-store thing?

Yeah the TFA Deluxes thing is confusing. They are not called out in the flyer as on sale and the shelf tags at my TRU (Kitchener) still read $15.99. I've even heard the wall scanners will show $15.99 but I can't confirm that as every one of Kitchener TRU's wall scanners is broken.

But TFA Rodimus did indeed scan at $11.97 today at a cashier.

The 20% clearance is on prices that end in 1, 6 and 8.

So the ROTF scout and deluxe classes is part of it, because they're priced at $4.98.

Brakedown for $4 is a good deal, too bad I bought Ejector and Sonar at Wal-mart for $5 each a couple of months ago. Still debating on getting ROTF Dirge.

The deluxe ironhide is out of scale with the other cars. Even though it has a better mold than the other ones, the scale makes it strange looking. They should have made this one maybe 10% larger to be in scale with the other cars. It seems really weird that ironhide is smaller than bumblebee.

It is true that he is out of scale with the other cars, but I think he goes pretty well with deluxe Ratchet and voyager BB Optimus Prime. It also makes him to scale with some past toys who also ended up being too small, like ROTF Soundwave.

He does look really goofy next to Bumblebee; I can't argue with that.
