In a rare treat for Toronto area Transformers fans GM Canada is running a special promotional event at Square One in Mississauga in which they are giving away the very rare Swerve (http://www.tfw2005.com/resources/universe-autobots-195/swerve-1012/?catid=searchresults&searchid=117563) toy based of Chevy's Aveo. Beginning this past Thursday and running until this Sunday, GM Canada has a limited number of this rare figure to give away for filling out a brief survey. So if you are in the Toronto area be sure to stop by GM's booths located just outside the Square One food court but be sure to arrive early to pick up this unique figure as supplies are very limited.

So what, exactly do you have to do to get this figure? Is it just a matter of filling out the form to enter the contest? You don't have to test-drive a vehicle or anything like that?

'Cause if all I have to do to get the Swerve toy is pay a couple of Mississauga Transit bus fares I'll be out there tomorrow. I was planning on going to a Zellers to take advantage of their sale anyway and I think there's a fairly large one in that mall.

Don't show up too early. I ended up there before the booth (and mall) even opened. I think the reps showed up around 9:30, but they didn't have any figures yet. He did flag me down when I passed by later and I managed to score 1.

... You're right. Sorry for thinking about getting more than one. I'm still going to ask my friend to get a few though. One for him, one for me, and I know someone else who would want one. There's still good reasons why people should be getting multiples: so many people want them but can't get there in person to get them, that person can get the toys for those other people.
Basically, anyone who's getting multiples of these, please don't be a jerk and scalp these to other fans. There's reasonable compensation for the effort, and then there's just profiting off others.

Please report when they run out of them for the day so no one else takes the trip for nothing.

I'm really surprised Protoman doesn't have one of these already. I thought he was like a super-completist collector that had everything.

Man, I hope one day I can open a Transformers museum and manage to somehow get a proper collection for display in it. I keep thinking that I'll "just" find two complete collections and somehow obtain them. I've been trying to make my collecting goals lately more realistic by only collecting what I really really really have to have for my personal collection, plus anything with a 3rd or more mode for the museum, and sometimes exclusives that I don't absolutely have to have, just in case one of the two complete collections is missing some of the rarer stuff. (like this Chevy Aveo Swerve. :P )
but I'm starting to get discouraged. Already my collecting is too much to handle, and I'm starting to think I won't be able to get the money to get it up and running even when I do figure out how to do such a thing. :P (grants for museums seem to highlight the phrase "Canadian heritage", and Transformers are not. The end? :( ) Plus I'm kind of... debilitated by depression.

We have stops throughout the GTA, and as far as I know, there are enough Aveo swerves for all of you in Toronto to get one.
Our schedule is:
June 25-28 Fairview Mall
July 2-5 Sherway Gardens
July 9-12 Bramalea City Centre
July 16-19 Fairview Mall (again)

We are open mall hours at each venue.

I just need to request some guidelines.
-Don't all descend on Fairview next week to scoop as much as you can. Please spread it out over the 5 dates.

See, that's where the issue is... the collector's market is all over the world and since the promo is only in TO, no matter how much of a flood there is in Toronto, this piece will be highly sought after by completists and many other collectors. I think you may be overreacting somewhat. The TF fan community is unarguably quite divided on a number of topics, but for the most part, this is a pretty civil debate.

Within a toy collecting community, Scalping is always going to be viewed with a certain amount of resentment, especially when a nice surprise like this Swerve giveaway comes along.

I think scalping is a legitimate lapse in basic fairplay, and the fact that most scalpers hide behind the classic "Well, I'm entitled to do this by law, so get the hell out of my way, losers!" response, shows that they don't have much consideration for others within the community. I'm legally allowed to laugh when people fall down, and I can swear at old people, but it doesn't make it not a douchy thing to do. :)

As for the "anti-Toronto" sentiment... isn't that a Canadian national pastime? I mean, everywhere EXCEPT Toronto? ;)

That's exactly how I feel...this promo is bringing out some very ugly feelings on this forum some from people I didn't expect it from.

I think the group giving them out has an issue with people trying to get as many extras as they can so they can scalp them on ebay. If you're going to get it to another fan at a reasonable price, or even just trade it some time down the road, I don't think there'd be much they can do.

But still, they bring those figures for the kids, not the collectors. So its kind of a dick move to go there and try to bend the rules to get as many as you can. I guess the key thing is to not be selfish about it.

I'm all for everybody getting these figs but please be advised that I went today to pick mine up and I was talking to the one gentleman running the event and he said that it has caused quite a hassle and GM was considering pulling the Swerve promo to avoid bad publicity and GMGuy was almost pulled off the project due to it! They are still running it but please try not to stir the pot to much in obtaining one and we may see more promo's in the future! (I hope)
