New geek acheivement unlocked!

Okay, so I'm working on a TF custom today. My neighbour's 13 year old kid comes along and asks what I'm doing. I explain. She looks at me kind of odd for a moment then blurts out, "You're wierd. Your like...a DORK!".

I know, your thinking, "Big deal, most toy collectors unlock the dork acheivment in no time at all". But I've been told I fall into the High Functioning side of the geek spectrum. I finished post secondary, got a job, got a wife, have a boy and a girl, a dog, a house, etc. So it's taken 37 years of effort for me to officialy unlock the dork acheivement. Celebrate with me and claim your free smiley. =)

What level has everyone else acheived?

I've been called a dork by my GF's younger sister, been called a geek be friends and a nerd by co-workers.
When called a nerd I promptly correct them by saying that a nerd is someone of above average high intelligence. I explain to them I'm a geek because I am knowledgeable in specific pop culture areas

After that, did you end up converting her into one of us?

One thing at a time. Just got to the dork level today. Prostelatizing is gonna take a whole lot more effort. I'll update here when I get my first convert.

I once was walking side by side one of my ex-gf Mom and just making small talk ,when all of a sudden she turned to me and said "CC... you're such a Nerd", I was a bit shocked and humbly amused

My best friend,who was an Anime Enthusiast called me a nerd last week.


It's nothing compared to what my other best friend told me (Who is a Whovian and a Gleek) who called the Fandom 'The Hipsters of the Nerd Ladder'

I don't know what to say about that.

Geek culture is really big right now. Big Bang Theory has done a lot to help and hinder this.

Help because there is many more produces and cool shit to buy, hinder because they lumped nerds and geeks into one socially awkward archetype.

I feel like I'm a geek, not a nerd (some one who has great intelligence and really enjoys math) or a dork (socially inept and introverted) or a loser (basically a dork w/o friends)

I try to wear it on my sleeve, but it really depends on the situation.

I taught myself BASIC in the 6th or 7th grade and I was telling one of my friends about it, and a girl overheard and told me that I was a loser and I was wasting my time being on my computer all day. I think that was my geek achievement.

Ironically, I now make a living working with computers, and it's everybody else that's wasting their time on Facebook and Twitter all day.

I wear my geek achievement as a badge of honour.
