Maketoys Battle Tanker

Pros
-professional packaging
-overall, the plastic quality is very good to excellent
-realistic and very G2-esque trailer... completes perfectly the look of my United G2 Optimus Prime
-big light-up sword reminiscing of the G2 Laser Prime sword
-bonus Drift sword
-extra sword blade (based on Drift's sword)
-parts attach easily and solidly
-different options: trailer mode, base mode, power-up mode, mech suit mode
-great headsculpt on the new head
-storage for all the parts in both modes EXCEPT Prime's original sword in mech suit mode, but I found out that you can store it on the backpack, so all is good
-I like how you can technically leave the guns pegged inside the trailer and just flip them around for the mech suite mode (but storing the forearms for trailer mode might prove more difficult if you leave them there)

Cons
-Mech suit makes the figure very back-heavy... you might want to tighten the hip ball joints with super glue to help with stability
-light-up effect is pretty useless as it doesn't light up the entire sword, just the bottom portion and not very brightly
-wire can be annoying and may eventually break over time if you're not careful
-new head looks too big when Prime is not wearing the mech suit
-I messed up the head installation by not reading the instructions... READ THEM.
-Mech suit arm assembly is a bit difficult to rotate during transformation, the plastic feels soft in that area and stuff is a bit in the way at the same time, but I can assure you it won't break, it just feels weird
-trailer doesn't turn freely in alt mode... the range is there, it's just that there's some interference between the truck and the trailer... it can be posed with the trailer turned though

Re: Quick review: Maketoys Battle Tanker

I just tried to widen the hole a tiny bit instead of just putting the head in boiled water as per instructions.................................. The head is not broken, it just keeps popping off the ball joint because the "lip" that should stop it from doing so is practically gone.

Just want to ask a few questions. What would u rate this if it is out of 10? Compare to the fansproject's add-on, which company do u think is more superior?

Re: Quick review: Maketoys Battle Tanker

thanks for the review pascal!

last question i would have is once you install the new head, are you stuck with it on unless you boil him from shoulders up?or is the head small enough to fit transformation back into truck without removing the new head?
i'm still getting this suit no matter what but the anticipation's starting to dig at me

Re: Quick review: Maketoys Battle Tanker

My question is do the extra bits that fit on to prime (the feet and hands) do you need those to make the full trailer or can you have them attached to prime and have the Trailer/Mech suit in trailer mode still. I know I worded that wierd but I can't explain it another way

They need to be removed to complete the trailer mode.

Good question... I would say they're equally good. Different design goals, some minor flaws on both sides, but the quality and attention to detail is there.

The new head doesn't compromise the transformation, it fits just fine. No idea if the head is going to be hard to remove though!

I'll let you do it next time. Man, I don't know what's happening, I completely lost all desire to take pictures or review the stuff I get, I had to force myself to do it this morning... and I think it shows. Passion's gone. :P
