IDW Comics

I was never really into comics until I started reading manga's because the animated series I was watching halted production.

I noticed I actually enjoyed reading than watching (as much as I like watching the action scenes).

To the point, is there a difference between Transformers: Classics and Transformers Classics: UK? (Other than art style and UK being a longer series?) Thinking about reading digital copies as I prefer not to increase my carbon footprint.

I do, but I'm really really behind. I used to collect the physical comic books but stopped buying them in general...been meaning to go digital but have been procrastinating. As usual

Yeah; the UK stories were written since the UK comic was published more frequently; as a result they eventually tended to play with a different cast than the US books did.

Lots of awesome epics in the UK stuff - Time Wars, Target 2006, Space Pirates, etc.

Re: IDW Comics

Hmm seems like I don't want to touch the classic stuff from either but I prefer something more true to the TF time line...

More true to the TF timeline?

Not sure if I understand. The Marvel US/UK books are just as much G1 canon to many as the cartoon is. Bob Budiansky, the main writer for the US book until Furman took over, wrote most of the official character bios/tech specs anyway.

Heck - many characters owe their popularity to the comics. And others had differing portrayals that were superior to their cartoon counterparts, most notably Shockwave.

Re: IDW Comics

I follow the classic Marvel comics but not the UK ones since those weren't the stories I grew up with. I enjoyed the DW series while that was going and even the DW Armada series. However I just can't get myself into the current IDW series. The personalities of some of the more established characters like Bumblebee and Prowl just aren't what I thought they would be. And Arcee as a badass ninja assassin? WTF? I stopped reading after that.

I guess this just proves the axiom "to each their own" - IDW's Prowl is my favorite iteration of the character. Complete with his table flipping.

Arcee's reinvention, I can see people having issues with, mind. It largely comes down to "Furman never quite getting why there would be female Transformers to begin with." Which is a whole other debate.

Re: IDW Comics

I left off at the end of Escalation, so I'm WAY behind.

Eventually I'll just get all the IDW collection volume things to read. I think they're at Vol 7 or 8 now. It'd be too much trouble for me to track down every trade paperback released.
