No, that's battery acid.

Soldering flux is used to chemically remove impurities on the metal contacts so that solder will quickly and easily fuse to it. It's PH level is acidic, similar to battery acid, but they are not made of the same stuff.

Sweet, I'll probably never have one of these, but I definitely enjoyed reading about it.

Re: Gen Metroplex discoveries

There are still 8 distinct sound effects. Does the U.S. version have this along with the voice clips?

From the YouTube video that I've seen, the US version has all of the EU version sound effects.

I think it's a simple change: the US version alternates between voice and sound effect. The EU version has only the sound effects. The order is even in the exact same sequence.

The chip may still contain the sound effects on it, but one of the legs may not be connected, or something may be changed in the chip's prom. In binary terms, the EU version has just disabled (or removed completely) all of the odd numbered sound effects by locking the final bit to 0.

It would be cheaper to just do something different with the board than completely change the chip's program. Whatever it is, it'd hidden under the epoxy so we may never know.

The size is perfect as a Mini-Con base. At least the PCC Mini-Cons can connect to him for the most part.

But on the plus side, there's a Shapeways vendor that has made double ended Mini-Con powerlinx posts, and since Metroplex has so many 5mm holes all over, they could be converted to accommodate Mini-Cons.
