They were likely distributed at both McDonalds and Esso in Canada. (They were a regional test toy for McDonalds I think, not sure about Esso).

They are shrouded in mystery.

Missed this pic. These guys are from the short-lived Galidor toyline, which was linked with Lego, and these are some of the mcdonald's happy meal figures for that line.

They are shrouded in mystery.

These were NOT released at Esso, they were true McDonalds toys.

Esso released their own version of transforming robots. They even had a commercial where a guy pulls up in his car, and while he's waiting, the car begins to transform, with him inside.

The controversial ending had the car become a scale robot, but the HUMAN is inside with his head being inside the robot helmet section; which means the transformer was just supposed to be a power suit or exo-suit for him, not its own life-form!

They showed the toys in the ad. I believe they were regular car designs with mostly single-colour plastic. Definitely not futuristic vehicles red-white-blue like the McDonald's transformers.

So the above are McDonalds toys. Not Esso.

I had owned both the Mcdonalds and Esso bots as a kid.

I found that commercial on youtube lol. Those vintage toys do look pretty cool. Motorized is awesome. There is one bot that shoots sparks. That would be awesome if todays bots had some of those features. Imagine a leader Class OP motorized with the ability to shoot out sparks. (Hasbro take note).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqQbUyUyGog

In today's transformers universe that could be called a Bumblebee human alliance fail.

AWESOME LINK!!!

Thank you so much for that link! I seriously doubted it would be on Youtube, but you're my hero!

I totally forgot he was in a Bumblebee car! Man, that controversial transfrorm result is Terrible!!

I guess the hand transforming the toy at the end didn't get the Hasbro memo: "Excessive force is not necessary"
Seriously, what up with the way he forcefully snaps it together?!!

Re: Need Help to Identify a Few Bots

Wondering if anyone can help identify these for my curiosity...

These appear to combine ? The Blue and Yellow look are Legs while the Green one splits to make Arms. Not sure about the Red One but I assume their is a figure missing ? (Marked Leader Shine 1987 Made In China)

Cheap/Weird Insect Bugs (Just says Made in China)

Kinda look like gobots but aren't. Pieces detach and move around to transform the figures + they have detachable/movable mind up motor things ?

Lastly... I believe this, or at least most are a Samurai Something Figure or Something Samurai ? (Edit, Called Superhuman Samurai!)
