Even as a kid I had trouble seeing Rodimus as a leader. Um and to a lesser degree Springer were easily the ones in charge.

back on topic,as much as i love the g1 stories in both t.v. and comic form,lately i've been starting to like more of the comic fiction overall.
dreamwave totally rock imho until you know who screwed it all up.
but some of the story lines they were just developing were starting to get interesting right before they went belly up.
sunstorm vs omegafriggin supreme!
warwithin constructicons vv warwithin defensor!

what other continuity has starscream ever been able to take out a whole platoon of autobots and hide their inactive bodies at the bottom of a lake?
and the sunstreaker/sideswipe story was getting good too.
the age of wrath.........left me hanging,but a good hanging.
idw seems to be albe to take the reins pretty good so far too.theyre not too bad in creating the vs battles either.

the issues themselves may be a bit harder to find now,but it was basically the last issues of transformers ongoing by dreamwave.the story stopped indefinately just as sunstreaker and sideswipe were about to enter a insecticon hive.one of the covers featured sideswipe/streaker being stalked by insecticon silohettes.

Oh and dreamwave Transformers was still continuing that insecticon story until issue number 10 where Megatron returns, reclaims his leadership, kicks the crap out of Starscream for treachery, the story was about to get interesting until Dreamwave got cancelled. Darn. I really hope IDW would please continue that one.

One of the things I liked about G1 transformers was that other than the leaders there were no opposites. In fact the armies didn't know each other. Then, rivalries developed as the series progressed.

Anyway:
G1: Grimlock, Wheelie and Daniel vs sanity
BW: Proto-Humans vs Waspinator
Cybertron: Scourge vs Shortround and Overhaul
Animated: Starscream vs Megatron.
