OMG I've never been to a tfcon and I figured it out!

Re: Please don't play with your toys in the panel room.

I suppose the only thing that can be done to get the message across to everyone is make an announcement via microphone just before a panel starts and tell people not to play with their toys. And to let everyone else know that it's OK to tell noisy people to put a lid on it.

I would be happy to make such an announcement if ninja intimidation was seen as an asset in getting the message across.

A sign just outside the room entrance could help as well. I recommend writing the "DON'T" part of it in red and make it look like dripping blood.

Sayonara.

I don't think there's any reason not to be polite towards people unless they give you a reason to respond otherwise.

Re: Please don't play with your toys in the panel room.

As someone who is guilty as charged with fiddling with toys, apologies for it seeming inconsiderate. I'll admit it's never something that I contemplated before, given I'm at a convention dedicated to, well, toys.

From my perspective, I'm the type where though I'm pretty attentive in panels, I tend to want to have something for my hands to idly fiddle with. It's not that I'd rather TF a toy than watch a panel, but rather that I'm idly doing it while I'm watching a panel. After all, it's typically a situation where I got something neat in the dealer room that I can't wait to fiddle around with.

That said, I will acknowledge that of all the things for fiddling, ratcheted toys I can see as supremely annoying. Are Deluxes/anything that doesn't really have ratchets that much of a noisemaker? (As typically, if I'm thinking about it, I try to avoid fiddling with anything that has ratchets in it). I know I tend to conciously avoid making too much noise by avoiding stuff with ratchets when I can.

(And apologies about that Shockwave back in 09. No idea that he was so annoying... after all, as memory serves he doesn't actually have any loud joints or anything. Or was it just the fact that I had one?)

EDIT: And I'm pretty sure I just shot myself in the foot by even posting. There goes plausible deniability :P

Re: Please don't play with your toys in the panel room.

THREAD RESURRECTION.

Last year the message seemed to get through to most people, one way or another. Let us strive for a peaceful panel room again, free of miscreant clacking.

Doesn't matter if it's a ratchet joint or a ball joint or a Pokemon PVC. Just put your toys away and enjoy the show. It's better that way.

Sayonara.

If batman taught me anything it is that violence solves everything.

What's even worse than a guy playing with toys in the panels is a SMELLY guy playing with toys in the panels.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think there is anything more disrespectful to an esteemed guest than to ignore them for your articulated plastic addiction.

So the moral of this story is "don't play with your crack when you're supposed to be giving attention to Jimmy instead."

... Wait... that almost doesn't sound right...
