Happy 35th Anniversary - 1st Episode 1984!

I can’t believe this wasn’t mentioned in anymore news articles or by any of the big Transformers sites.

https://decider.com/2019/09/17/the-t...-its-1984/amp/

The first ever episode of Transformers aired today, September 17th back in 1984.

I remember watching it as a child and thought it was the most amazing shit ever! I mean it still is, those Generation 1 cartoons are the reason I have this toy addiction today.

I watched it too with my brother after school each day it was on.

They advertised that show like crazy back on KVOS TV12 so all the boys I knew watched it.

It was so popular we had Transformers/Cabbage Patch Kids day in my grade 4 class in '85. All the guys had different Autobot cars since no one wanted to buy the same one someone else had. I had Grapple!

I still have the VHS tapes that we taped it on. I remember the cheesy instrumental music that played before it started (it would be sort of like a screensaver now?) because it was the first thing they aired in the morning after their 'dead-air/sign-off thing' was over. IIRC it was on 2&7 in Calgary...

I think it was a year later that the show first aired in Hong Kong. The possibility of a being having a fluid physical form blew my mind. For some reason, phase changes (e.g. ice melting) just didn't hit me the same way.

Anyone knows when the French dub started airing in Quebec? A year later?

This great site and awesome community today exists because of that show show.

What is cool today for those of you that have kids is showing them the original series.

What isn't cool is having to explain to your kid why Soundwave transforms into a cassette player and needs tapes. I had to do that recently.

The biggest favour anyone can do is expose their kids to "old stuff".

1) My kids aren't stuck with the whole "only new is good" mentality.

2) they get 99% more jokes in movies/tv shows/memes, etc.

3) they actually know sometime more than the others "learn" from Facebook and online crap from social media, they're like "historians" to the other kids their age and beyond.

4) they aren't ADD like most younger generations are towards always everything.

Just saying....

Absolutely agree on all you points!

Maybe I sound like an old fart, but today's kids discard their toys/likes/etc. so fast because the next new 'thing' is always around the corner. Zero appreciation & gratitude for what they have in their possession at the current moment.
