It's mostly due to prices for the venues. Most cons are run by 2-3 people and volunteers and then they gotta pay for security, pay for the events going on and organizers, you also have to pay for your guest speakers or guest of honors and that all adds up. ANd because it's quebec, you gotta make everything bilingual as you don't want the language police on your ass so you gotta waste more money on printing.
WWE, is WWE. It's cheesy, im not a fan of it as it's just soap-opera wrestling that people throw money at you see pre-determined matches, but they're a nationwide company. They got the $$$ for Montreal.
Montreal's only cons have a little monopoly going on between Otakuthon and MTL Comic Con as they take place in the same place usually (Palais du Congres) and a few weeks apart. Otakuthon is usually mid-late August while Comic Con is mid-September.
Both are starting to get real expensive (especially comic con, and if you're a dealer, holy crap it costs $$$.) that it's actually looking cheaper to grab a megabus and bus down to Toronto and going to a much cheaper convention as the prices begin to skyrocket over here. Anime North, TFcon and FanExpo are all good alternatives.
