Does Masterpiece supply meet demand?

Soundwave's release triggered me to join back the local hunting mania.

New release hunting has never been easy, but this seems to be the craziest I have seen yet in my 12 year (though semi-retired) collecting career :
  • Pre-order got pulled off from toysrus.ca
  • Fellow board members visiting TRUS daily but still missing the boat

My 1st child arrived 2 weeks ago and I gave up on the hunt, asking my sister in Asia to get one there. Lucky for me, easy shopping for her as I suppose locals all got the TakaraTomy version already.

I'm making this post cause I'm very curious whether it has been this crazy the past 2-3 years (I obtained both MP Rodimus & Prime v2 from Asia as well).

Sure, I guess some MP figures were shelf warmers, and that there will be 2nd/3rd wave of shipments, but I am now doubting whether Hasbro/TRUS learned how to properly project Masterpiece demand.

My sincere wish to all TF-lovers (less the scalpers) to nail the toys of your desire.

P.S. Am very grateful that I secured one myself, but find it ridiculous that I need to get a non-Japanese-exclusive from across the globe. Will need to figure out how to ship SW here cheaply/securely, or wait half a year for my sister to come visit my newborn child.

Re: Does Masterpiece supply meet demand?

I think if u waited another month there will be dozens of soundwaves on the store shelves. Given the length that they had it up for preorder, and hearing about people were ordering them in 10s, seems like soundwaves supply will be way over demand.

I worry more about future MP releases. Even with the rush, Acid Storm looks to already be a shelf warmer so im worried TRU may order less next time.

Re: Does Masterpiece supply meet demand?

since MP soundwave joined the 25% off on line sale, I think even ToysRus think there are way too many MP soundwaves in stock now.

Re: Does Masterpiece supply meet demand?

Besides MP Hot Rod (Rodimus) over production or lack of fan interest, MPs supply in general under meet demand. Barely saw any MP Grimlock, OP very limited supply was a joke, and TC barely saw any shelf life. Got them all after many many days of hunting. Thanks to sighting reports as well. As for SW, I already pre-order one online and the Takara reissue as well. Not taking the chance of missing him out in stores. MPs are for collectors hence the limited production. Mothers are not going to buy em for junior to play. I do see Acid Storm as shelf warmers though.

hey Br-icy I wouldn't mind helping you out if I end up getting the 2 I pre-ordered and assuming you are still looking at that point

Re: Does Masterpiece supply meet demand?

Other than Rodimus, I don't recall seeing any other MP on a shelf in NS.
I could be wrong and someone can correct me if i am, but it seems like it's really hard to hunt over here in the east. Case in point with Soundwave. He shows up all a cross Canada and hits Ontario. He doesn't show up in Quebec for obvious reasons. Anyone here in the Maritimes seen one of these on a shelf?

Re: Does Masterpiece supply meet demand?

For Rody, I guess everyone wants the trailer?

At least that's the case for me thus why I got the TakaraTomy version (2). Coincidentally MP Optimus version 2 (Hasbro) was released about the same time so I snapped both in Asia.

Re: Does Masterpiece supply meet demand?

The Hasbro releases of MP-10 Prime and Thundercracker answer that question pretty well. Let's hope MP Soundwave onward vastly improve upon and resolve that issue.
