It is safe. At least as safe as many other activities you engage in on a regular basis. Like I said, you're far more likely to get in a serious car accident than have an adverse reaction to a flu shot.

You beat me to it. In fact, if you look up the side effects of just about any drug you would be afraid to take it. Most of this comes down to a risk/benefit anaylsis. Yeah there is the risk of something happening with the vaccine, but in certain populations the benefits out-weigh the risks (which are minimal to begin with).

I've only ever taken the flu shot once, and that was as a child. I am by no means getting the H1N1 vaccine, nor the seasonal one.

Yes, the swine flu has killed people, but then again, so has the seasonal flu.
There is a lot of hype and fear being thrown at this, and due to reporting about the kid who died of it within a day a week before vaccines were being given out, more people went to go get it out of fear.

Besides, with all this pushing to get both vaccines, how much testing has been done to make sure they won't cause problems?

The H1N1 vaccine has been tested, and is made the same way that every other vaccine is made, and has been made for quite some time.

I cannot stress enough that this is not a drug in the way that people tend to think of a drug, and does not require the years of testing and strict approval process that actually accompanies drug testing. It does not affect your body through chemical means.

A vaccine is just a neutered version of the regular virus so your own immune system can create antibodies to counter it.
If you think of of your immune system as an army, then the vaccine is just reconnaissance.

The "hype" is created by the medias. True. But the danger is still real, hype or not. Otherwise governments wouldn't be wasting all that money on getting the vaccine to the population. Who do you think the governments listened to before greenlighting the campaign, the medias or the doctors? Doctors. And who do you think the doctors listened to before deciding the shot was necessary, the medias or the specialists? Specialists. It's common sense. Refusing the shot by choice, fine; refusing the shot because you think it's a conspirary is ridiculous.

I've never had a flu shot in my life and am very undecided if I'm going to start now, even if the government reccomends that I do.

No one, I repeat, no one can tell us that this Vaccine is 100% safe or 100% unsafe. Put 1000 doctors together and you would very likely get a thousand different answers.

Use your brain, think for yourself. Thats the only way to decide if this is right or wrong for you. Sources are a dime a dozen with as many positive takes on the vaccine as negative ones

Second by what WHO definition of the term Pandemic do you believe is the correct one they SHOULD be following ? The one from 3 years ago or the current definition ? (Assuming you are aware of their current definition)

Congratulations you just defined the common flu virus.

Governments don't listen to doctors or specialists...they only listen to one authority the World Health Organization who have classified this as a pandemic. Why you ask ?! Because of their very weak definition of the word. Plain and simple. Look it up.

I was given a great piece of advice the other day by my doctor about SWINE Flu and the Vaccine.

The knowns of the virus are better than the unknowns of the vaccine.

Hey does anyone remember that safe Anthrax vaccine they gave Gulf War Soldiers back the early 1990's ? What happened to the majority of them 5 - 10 after receiving a "safe" vaccine ? You can preach to the high heavens all you want that the vaccine is safe, but as with many others things it could take YEARS for UNKNOWNS of the vaccine to show up. And the KNOWS of the virus are no different than those of the flu, a flu were all too familiar with and which KNOWNS are readily available. Granted as jourdo stated this applies alot of our medications today. Heck look at those American drug ads LOL...I remember one of them for restless leg syndrome where a side effect was increased gambling.
