Re: G1 collecting advice

Saving money and finding deals is what makes this hobby so much more fun!

I'm in the middle of exams but I'll be looking to to compile a list of figures and posting it on this thread for more advice.

For the time being, are these the best one's available?

- Sky Lynx: Encore
- Omega Supreme: Encore
- Metroplex: Encore
- Wheeljack: Vintage
- Shockwave: Vintage

I'll be focusing mainly on the first 2 seasons of the show in terms of collecting for the time being. Most likely somewhere between one G1 figure every 3 months-ish, that way it doesn't hurt my wallet!

If you guys have the time, I wouldn't mind any recommendations on what you guys feel are the best reissues available

Thanks guys, and I hope to meet some of you fellas at TFCon!

I think I'd agree with you...except that I'd go for a KO Shockwave (well, I already have...it's just much more cost effective).

My other suggestions (off the top of my head):

- Soundwave and Blaster - Vintage G1, don't worry about finding Soundwave's cassettes (see below).
- Soundwave/Blaster Casettes: Encore reissues, vintage for any that weren't reissued.
- Megatron - Transformers collection (the book style one).
- Optimus Prime - Takara New Year's Edition (from 2002), or Transformers Collection release, or Encore reissue.
- Insecticons - Hasbro Reissue
- Perceptor - Hasbro Reissue
- Jazz/Meister - Vintage G1
- Dinobots - Vintage G1 (or maybe G2 if you can get the grey coloured Grimlock/Slag/Snarl)
- Starscream and Seekers - Encore or Vintage (they shouldn't cost too much).
- Jetfire - Vintage (no other choice with this one)
- Minibots - Vintage, shouldn't pay more than $10 or $15 each.

Agree with most here. A few you have decent alternatives with:

Soundwave and Blaster: SDCC releases. SW comes with 4 cassettes. Blaster with 3.
Jazz: Encore, yes it's the G2 mold, but overall it's a nice accurate figure, and blue eyes (visor) as a bonus.
Minibots: Like Bruticus82 said, vintage, but the encore set of 5 gives you a nice jumpstart. Bee, Swerve, Tailgate, Pipes and Outback.

Re: G1 collecting advice

I forget which Bumblebee has the cartoon accurate head. One of the TakaraTomy releases I think.

Also, keep your eyes peeled for Cliffjumper, and a red Hubcap. They ARE different, and many people might try to pass off the red Hubcap as Cliffjumper.

As for Jetfire, if you want something that's more or less the same, but has kickass posing ability, look for one of the newer Macross 1:48 scale VF-1S Super Valkyrie figures with red details. Then just get yourself some Jetfire reprolabels.

I know it isn't the same thing, but the extra posability makes up for that.

Re: G1 collecting advice

I'm going to say - you can get a G1 Metroplex probably for the same cost as an encore one :P Ok maybe not boxed but complete sans instructions...

Re: G1 collecting advice

As a g1 Collector are you going to collect the variants?
for example there are a number of color and different acc for optimus (big small hands,large/small gun, trailer with cut outs and metal plates/or not, trailer hindge long/short etc) alternate color for bee and cliff *red bee yellow cliff, here in NA, other colors different countries (most of the minis) etc and bumble jumper micoman carry over packaged by mistake but on the whole considered part of TF g1 ,.seeker jets different canopies first release as opposed to second,
" macross" Jetfire/regular jetfire..... just to name a few these may also be a consideration if collecting g1.

If you are going to get Megatron from the Takara's book style Collection series, do the same thing for Optimus. Reason: both of these two have their energon weapons - Prime got the axe and Megatron has a meteor hammer, or something like that...
