Silver sharpie marker - thoughts?
Hey there, I'm not really a modder but I'd like to do some minor detailing to a few toys. Mainly adding silver to the rims of CW toys like Magnus, Streetwise, etc. Maybe some details to G2 CW Onslaught as well.
I tested a silver sharpie markie on a spare CW Motormaster and really like the results on his tire.
My questions, I suppose, are:
-is this a good long-term solution?
-Can I expect to constantly retouching or does it stay well?
-Should I just go for paint?
-Any other suggestions for good silver?
Am I on the right path, basically? I don't want to ruin my toys.
Related to Onslaught, I wouldn't mind finding some paint or good markers that match up to the purple camo and his black. The colors on the Bruticus chestplate. Those bland yellow thighs need some detail.
Thanks.

They rub off quite easily, expect to retouch...

Re: Silver sharpie marker - thoughts?
you can also give gundam markers a try but they are more liquid-y than sharpies, and but silver sharpies gives a much more shinier finish
for rims i would try a sharpie first

Re: Silver sharpie marker - thoughts?
Gundam marker would be better, I have used a sharpie to touch up worn off paint sometimes.
If you're concerned about restoring it to original i'd use some acrylic model paint (I like Tamiya) as it comes off with 100% isopropyl alcohol.

Get Gundam markers or Tamiya markers from a local hobby shop if you just need one silver pen. If you plan on getting a full set of colours then order from Japanese shop like HLJ.

Re: Silver sharpie marker - thoughts?
Silver sharpies work well, my suggestion is to use it, let it sit overnight so it has a chance to dry, and then go over it again, and again give it a chance to dry/cure. paint is definitely a more permanent solution however the sharpie works well have done it to a bunch of my cw figures. Also for paint... you can use the folks art paint you can grab at walmart/michaels. just put a quick primer layer on the figure, for some of the colours you may need to put a few coats, but the paint works beautiful every time

Micheals has some good paint pents, but honestly? I find silver is a hard colour to cure. Personally, I like the painters brand paintpens from Walmart. The chisel head is nice and it cure relatively quickly. If you want to know how effective they are, have a look at my Custom Gen Megs, I used them on that.
