Re: ToysRUs.ca Transformers Sightings and discussion

This is really getting asinine.

And just to rub salt in the wound, the eBay TF listings sidebar ad that I'm seeing on this thread includes a Runabout. So I checked its price.

4 bids and up to $51. lol.

Really, TRU could easily figure out ways to end this frustration. But it's pretty clear they don't care. They're getting their money all the same whether it's 1 scalper botting their way to cleaning out the online stock or actual fans and collectors getting fair service.

One way to end this would be to have more stock. No one is scalping gigawatt for instance.

Gigawatt was never exclusive, though. Also, a lot of people don't like to wait.

Demand for gigawatt was low too. Its a niche item within the transformer collectors world. I have zero interest in mash-ups in transformers, funko, comics and basically anything because 99% of the time they suck.

The other annoying part is when you have other members on here saying they've bought multiples or an "extra one for a friend". These are limited exclusives, just buy one and leave enough for everyone else. Why can't your "friend" just buy one themselves?

I think Gigawatt is already too expensive at it's retail price so there can't be much room, if any, for a scalper to make a profit on its' resale.

Gigawatt was also really expensive. I got it from Hasbro Pulse (when they were pretending it was an exclusive), but even with shipping it came out to less than the retail price in Canada. Then it sat on shelves at EB Games for months. Then again at Walmart. And finally the motherload of peg warmers at TRU.

That's a little narrow-minded, don't you think? Maybe the friend can't get to the store in time, so the purchaser saves their friend the trouble of having to go to the same store a few hours later to find nothing?
Those that buy a couple extras for friends or for themselves are not the problem here. The problem are those that buy out all stock only to resell them at a markup. Most scalpers are not fans themselves, they're only in it to make money.

I saw a guy literally on the phone with a friend going through what he needed. And given how fast exclusives fly off the shelves, if you can help a buddy out, I don't see anything wrong with that. Except if there's another person in the store at the same time, for the same item, they should get priority (if such a thing exists anymore).

Its def a mix... I work during the day so when things come out at on a tuesday at store open I have very little chance of ever obtaining the item. Trucks only come on week days and product gets put out before or in the first few hours of opening. For the record ive been to TRU everyday for last 2 weeks after work and it looks like ill miss the Thrust/Runabout exclusives because they couldnt finish putting the stock out on the day i took off. So having someone who can grab me one is a godsend and vice versa. That said i have friends who buy extra's as "trade bait" or to have one in box and one out.... its weird but whatever.. nothing you can do.
