Thumbs up Re: The None of My Business Question of the Day! How much Cash do you bring to TFCON?

Every year (since TFCon #2) I up my budget by $50...last TFCon I brought $700. You do the math.

Luckily, I am never able to spend all of it.

But it pays to be prepared.

Let's all imagine how much we'll all bring at TFCon #50 (that's 2051 BTW)

Re: The None of My Business Question of the Day! How much Cash do you bring to TFCON?

The last couple of years were lean years due to going back to school. About $200.

This is my first TFcon since being employed again, so I'm hoping to go with a budget somewhere between $500 and $1000 after travel and accommodation expenses. Food? You can survive without food for a week, right? That said, I doubt I'll spend it all. I just like having the option...

About $600 depending on the releases of MP figures only cause you gonna spend 150-200 on just one of them. Still never end up spending it all though.

Just remember: The cash machines will be empty when you go to withdraw.

I'm not much of a collector, but I have had a ton of fun even with less than $20 on me. Sometimes it's not a big item that catches my eye, but something really simple that raises the nostalgia.

I plan to bring about $300 even though there's not much I'm looking to buy. I figure that's a good enough amount to spend on spur-of-the-moment purchases without feeling too guilty afterwards.

Re: The None of My Business Question of the Day! How much Cash do you bring to TFCON?

Another tip: Research the closest ATM of your FI/credit union nearby, you may be using it before, during, or after the convention, and know your ATM cash withdrawal limit and perhaps increase it for the weekend only.

If you definitely want to buy something and don't have enough money, place a deposit with the seller, don't just ask them to hold it, many won't.

For the American visitors, Canadian cash is more preferable to US cash, even if the exchange rate is near parity. Most people pay a ~2% FX spread when redeeming it for CDN cash, and many sellers may be reluctant to take US cash since some may not be sure if they're real or not.

Then again, if you don't mind paying the $3 fee ($1.50 x 2) to withdraw from the 3rd party ATM machine at the hotel, why not?
