Well, for the first few hours, the pre-order fell under a 25% off sale, as well as a free shipping deal if you spent 25 dollars (or more than 25), so that's how some of us lucked out.

Between the online preorder shell game TRU is playing with us, the alleged lack of inventory in Canada in spite of the toy getting a retail release in the U.S. two weeks ago, and the unbelievable markup in Canada vs. the U.S. price, I agree with you 100%. I was motivated enough to fire off an email to TRU.ca this morning saying exactly that, for whatever that may be worth.

There's talk on TFW that the MP-03 Grimlock price is now raised to $79.99 in the US. Looks like TRU US goofed on the US price. That's why it was $59.99.
