I would agree that there is more to the story but I doubt we'll ever hear from the other side.

They told me that they also inquired about space at Brentwood (also managed by the same company) but were only offered a small unit. This sort of leads me
to think that A3U had an expiring lease and assumed that they could just re-up but got caught off guard when the mall signed a contract with a new party. Just speculation so take it for whatever it is

Whatever the case, I think small business should stay away from big mall any way. Leases are extremely expensive and so many regulations and you have to open as long as the Mall is open. If they are out of the mall they at least don't have to open for long hours when there are barely anyone in the mall.

Re: A3U given the boot!

So you feel it will be in A3U's best interest to now have shorter hours?

I would think they would benefit from longer hours so they can host more games...

I mean being located outside a mall will give them more flexibility and control. All specialty stores have their target customers. No random mall shopper will walk past A3U and go in to buy a $300+ Hot Toys stormetrooper or $200 MP. If they want to host game night and model builder event, they can doing it at their own time. But any other day it's a waste to stay open until 9pm just because the mall is open.

I'm not sure I agree with your logic.

I would bet A3U sucks a lot of customers in. They could have easily gotten into a non mall retail outlet but they've stayed for a reason.

Even when their store expanded, they kept paying the mall premium.

They'll miss the walk through traffic,

Their display window would get anyone who grew up in the 80's interested, some would buy something for sure...even if just a T-shirt.

I think it's pretty obvious they would prefer to be in a mall.

I know lots of guys who would blow 200 bucks on a nostalgic whim....

ToyTraders makes a ton hosting games and make a mint selling junk food. A3U should be able to cash in on longer hours and the snacks if they can fit more gaming tables.

Online prices are in US, CAD, GPB, and JPY if you click through to an item. Store prices are CAD.

TRU Express was seasonal only. Usually just in time for Xmas. It's possible but I don't want to speculate.
Maybe Hot Topic? They've got a store in Guildford and sell "collectibles" though not actual Transformers that I've ever seen.

I think, if anything, it'd be more like Metropolis Comics. On weekdays, open later (like noon) and then stay open later. Now don't have to open as early (cuz of mall hours). I imagine most of their transactions occurred later in the afternoon to evening from people who have to work during the day.

I have definitely seen a lot of people walk by, look in, and do a double take before heading in themselves. So will be harder to pick up that new customer who may not have heard of them and was just passing by.
