Quick reviews: ROTF Scout Skystalker + DLX Ratchet + DLX Lockdown

SKYSTALKER

Pros

-combines with Mindwipe (nothing fancy, just pegs on top of him in jet mode)
-well integrated hand weapons (part of the underside of the wings and the wings themselves) can be hand held or clipped to the forearms
-retractable front landing gear (little wheels roll)
-great range of articulation
-cool mono-eye headsculpt

Cons

-no rear landing gears
-visible head in jet mode (although it kinda adds to the drone look?)
-so-so undercarriage (visible feet and pegs)
-arms and wings can pop off during transformation if you're not careful
-spring-loaded feet can be annoying
-offset lower legs look a bit strange

Robot mode

Jet mode

Combined with Mindwipe

Worth getting? Like most ROTF Scouts, yes, especially if you have Mindwipe. Maybe his legs aren't the best because of the spring-loaded feet, but he's still pretty fun to transform and gimmicky to keep you busy for a while, all this without breaking the bank.

It seems like skystalker should have a canopy, was this axed at any point or something? Or would it screw up the transformation?

Don't mind seeing the head. Reminds me of Beast Machines...

RATCHET

Pros

-cool weapon gimmick in robot mode: as you insert the weapon's post into the forearm, two little grey parts deploy automatically
-good range of articulation (except maybe the head because of the raised plastic surrounding the neck... knees are double jointed though)
-interesting (and very different) transformation to achieve the look of what looks like a cross between Robot Replicas Ratchet and Voyager Ratchet

Cons

-shellformer (personally, I don't care much)
-too much junk hanging off the underside of the vehicle (barely clears the ground and visible from the sides and the rear)
-hip kibble gets a bit in the way (but can be moved)
-kinda floppy between modes (lots of stuff to clip and peg to achieve vehicle mode)
-rear portion of the truck mode looks a bit unfinished
-engineering problem: in robot mode, what is the back panel in truck mode should normally tab to the underside of the roof but can't because of an excess of plastic on the underside of the pivot where the roof folds... no big deal since the backpack would only compress a few more millimeters, but still, you can see it was meant to tab and it just can't
-Mechalive gimmick is lazy (upper legs - no gears, just the inside part rotating)
-Lockdown's EMP device can't be attached anywhere on Ratchet except the roof in vehicle (and even, it does't peg it perfectly because some plastic on the roof gets in the way)
-shoulder kibble can pop off during transformation if you're not careful

Robot mode

Truck mode

Weapon gimmick

Worth getting over the Voyager version? I would say no. The Voyager is still a superior toy. Deluxe Ratchet might not be the best deluxe around, but he's still pretty fun to fiddle with.

LOCKDOWN

Pros

-king of badass with the spikes all over in both modes
-asymmetrical look (okay, maybe not for everyone)
-fantastic nod to Animated Lockdown, only movie-fied
-über cool transformation that is at the same time somewhat similar yet different to Animated Lockdown's
-veeeeery tall for a deluxe, like Animated Lockdown
-nice glossy finish in car mode with some cool paint apps that could have been easily overlooked (like the exhaust pipes)
-great range of articulation (neck is particular spectacular with multiple points of articulation)
-cool weapons (the weapon arm has a cool working piston)

Cons

-rubber parts (right hand weapon, left hand, wheel spikes)
-car mode doesn't really look like it belongs to the movie universe
-arm kibble can pop off during transformation if you're not careful
-butt flap (car bumper) limits leg poseability a bit toward the rear and to the right side
-Ratchet's gun fits but almost completely locks the left arm's poseability
-despite the movie-fication, does't really fit with the other movie figures

Robot mode

Car mode

With Ratchet's gun

Worth getting over the Animated version? I would say yes, definitely a better toy that fixed a lot of the problems the original version had.

Looking at the area, doesn't look like he was ever meant to have one.

Btw, not the best pics unfortunately, I apologize for that.

I'm not sure, he still looks a lot like an Animated figure to me. I guess you could see him as an updated Classics version (much Bludgeon).
