Getting to know Sky Garry & Star Convoy (pic heavy) Fixed!

My long awaited Sky Garry finally arrived yesterday so I thought I'd share him with you all and do a review.
I'd been meaning to do the same with my Star Convoy I'd gotten last month so I review him too.

SKY GARRY

Here he is in robot mode with his Micromaster partner Shot Bomber and his Micromaster launcher truck.
He doesn't have the best name in the world. Personally I think his name was supposed to be Sky Carry, since he TFs into a drop ship, but engrish problems popped up and we got Sky Garry.

Transforming to transport mode

Flip out the landing struts and fold up his arms.

Fold down his head to his chest and rotate his arms 180* (*= degrees).

Fold out the landing struts behind his legs.

Put him down on the struts and fold down the nosecone.

Fold down the cockpit, place the guns on the wings and you're done!

Meet Shot Bomber. He's a cool little Micromaster in a mold that we've never seen.
Like most Micromasters his transformation is simple. Fold up his legs, turn over the missiles and....

You get a cool little futuristic missile tank.
Shot Bomber did afford me one unique experience though. It was the first time I'd ever had to sticker a Micromaster! The symbols, windows, and the detail on top of the tank are all stickers. I'm glad he has them though, he looked really plain without them.

Re: Getting to know Sky Garry & Star Convoy (pic heavy)

Here is the Launcher Truck.

Nothing really that special about it. It doesn't even have wheels of it's own to roll on. But it can hold a Micromaster inside it, like so:

Push the MM all the way back, push down the little tab on the front of the truck and it launches the MM out. Pretty quickly too!

Sky Garry can hold it under him like a cargo container.

Here he's carrying both his and Star Convoy's. He can actually carry 3 total.

Transforming to base mode

First, extend him to his full length.

Then angle out his arms and stand him on his end.

Remove the grey back piece and plug it into the cargo area. Attach a gun.

Fold down the nosecone and attach a gun.

Connect launcher to base with black ramp and you're done!

And here you have it. Sky Garry transforms into a cool battle tower. According to his instructions you can attach the lanchers to the little nubs that stick out from the sides of his arms and connect him to Sonic Bomber in his base mode for a more elaborate combined base.

Re: Getting to know Sky Garry & Star Convoy (pic heavy)

STAR CONVOY

Meet Star Convoy.

Yes his reputation of being a gigantic brick is well deserved, but no Optimus Prime, or Hot Rod(imus), collection is complete without him. That, and the facts that he was never available on this side of the Pacific, and that he comes with the super cool Hot Rod Micromaster make him totally worth getting.

Transforming to vehicle mode

Open his chest, fold down his head, push in fists, fold arms back ans fold up to form truck cab.

Close chest, fold out side wheels, and rotate entire upper body 180*.

Fold down back piece to cover legs, and form trailer.

Fold down the feet and you're done. Here you have Star Convoy in his truck mode. I don't know what you'd call it; a Cybertronian truck, a giant space Winnebago? What ever you call it, it's motorized! He goes pretty fast too. I was really looking forward to having a drag race between him and Dai Atlas, but My Dai Atlas doesn't seem to be working anymore. I have no idea why.

Attach his guns to make him into his battle mode, or Giant Space Winnebago of Doom!

Say hello to Micromaster Hot Rod. Possibly one of, if not the coolest Micromaster ever!
Like most MMs he sports a basic transformation. Fold back legs, flip up chest, and...

Vehicle mode! He looks almost identical to the original Hot Rod. The engine and exhaust pipes don't actually come painted, I did that. It really adds to his over all look, and the fact that he's actually a reissue motivated me. Had been an original, he'd still be naked.

Funny, I can see them.

I'd love to get Grandus!

**Ok, now they're not working. I'll have to fix that.**

Re: Getting to know Sky Garry & Star Convoy (pic heavy)

I want. At least Star Convoy was re-issued... Do you think since it's 2010 Takara/Tomy might choose to re-issue Dai Atlus, Sky Garry and Grandus in the replacement for Encore line??? Or maybe as special E-Hobby re-issues similar to Star Convoy.

Are you going to cover the base mode for Star Convoy? Your Sky Garry looks pretty cool.

Re: Getting to know Sky Garry & Star Convoy (pic heavy)

Star Convoy does come with a launcher truck like Sky Garry, but since they are identical except for sticker details, I'll skip reviewing it here.

Transformation to base mode

Stand up, fold up back piece and rotate top half 90* to the right.

Separate the two halves of the legs/trailer.

BTW, meet the new Roller! It doesn't really do anything special. It's just the engine that powers Star Convoy in his truck and base modes, and it also powers Grandus in his base mode by using a special connecting piece.

Flip Roller over and connect him to the side of the base, then attach the ramps and gun.

Open up the "legs" to expose the 2 bay areas.

Now the part that really F's up his base mode. Open the chest, flip up the head, transform the arms, place gun, and you're done.
I really don't know why they did this, it just looks goofy. It's a base with arms and a head.

The lancher trucks can fit into the bays and the launching mechanism still works. You just push down on the yellow buttons to activate the launchers.
I don't know if the original Star Convoy is like this, but the reissue's launcher is really strong. It shoots Micromasters out like bullets!

So here is the complete base mode. It would be much better if you could do something about that head. The arms I could forgive, but you can't even reall leave the head folded down because it blocks the nice "computer" sticker on the inside, and you'd never fit any MMs in there .

Oh, well. He's still awesome and I would recommend you get him if you are at all thinking about it.

Re: Getting to know Sky Garry & Star Convoy (pic heavy)

Base modes together.

It would be much nicer if you could actually connect their base modes, but who cares?! They're cool!

Two thirds of the Battle Stars / Return of Convoy team. I guess maybe two fourths if you count Sixliner, who I also have.
Now if I could only track down a nice reasonably cheap Grandus.
