I went with SAL, I know it's a big YMMV but I would've expected it to be at least "Dispatch from outward office of exchange" by now.

That may not have anything to do with AA. Could be Japan Post screwing up with their sorting and it's travelling in circles to get sorted to the right outgoing direction or whatever.
