What have the TF movies brought to TF in general
Well with the second movie behind us and with time enough to digest it. Combine that with the fact that TF toys are on top of the world again, so to speak. What do you guys think the new movies have brought, good or bad, to transformers in terms of story and toys?

Re: What have the TF movies brought to TF in general
The movies were mediocre in terms of writing and plot, but they really rejuvenated my love of Transformers. I hadn't touched a toy since I was a kid but since I got back into Transformers I've now started a small collection.
Although the movie character designs were a little ridiculous at times, it was interesting to see a more realistic approach to what giant robot cars would look like in real life.

Quoted for example.
The Transformers movies have brought an 80's property that was largely geared towards a youth audience, to the general public in a big way. The Transformers Brand is now recognizable, so much so that Optimus Prime it is a household name, such as Mario and Luke Skywalker.
Like or dislike, the movies have launched the franchise to a all time high and as long as the money keeps flowing, so will the product.

Re: What have the TF movies brought to TF in general
In terms of toys, the TF movies have allowed for a whole new level of complexity in design and realistic alt-mode detail as well as some truly unique figures (Bi-Plane! Toaster!)
However, I don't think the movie has added anything to the fiction of Transformers. Everything is so vague and unexplained and contradictory (I don't read the comics nor should I have to in order to understand a movie's plot) that you can barely say there's any story there.

They definitley re-ignited my love for transformers. I hadnt bought a transformer since beast wars was on tv before the movies came out.

Realism and complexity. Compair RoTF Prime to any other prime toy, ever, and the complexity can only be matched with Masterpiece Prime. And even then, RoTF Prime takes lead by a mile.
Mech Alive is another thing. Some of them are very simple, do not take anything away from the figure, and look damn cool in the process.
A lot of people may not like the movie, but Transformers toy engineering has skyrocketed in recent years.

Re: What have the TF movies brought to TF in general
Millions of dollars, wider recognition, more fans, return to pop culture.
On the downside, I feel it really hurts TFs in terms of how seriously anyone will be able to take it. It has killed any credibility TFs could have had as a legitimate, smart sci-fi. Now what people in general expect from Transformers will be simply action and comedy (and hot girls, where applicable). I doubt anyone will "reboot" the TF movie franchise the way Batman Begins did.
