Re: pokemon?
I played Red and Blue on an emulator. Was interesting to rename my save game from Red to Blue and back to get Pokemon from both. Getting evolutions you had to trade to receive was a little more involved, but I managed it. Got all 101, 102 if you count Missingno. on a copy of the save game file. No way was I corrupting all that hard work.
I also played a translated Green edition, and I think I had Yellow too.
Haven't played it in over 10 years...

Re: pokemon?
God, I remember playing Blue Version on my original Gameboy. Loved that game. Hated having to use a link cable because mine was so fussy and would drop connection at a moment's notice. That is actually how I found out about the duplication trick for cloning Pokémon. My last experience with Pokémon while growing up was playing the original Gold version on my Gameboy Colour, playing the card game up to the first Team Rocket set (Had foiled Dark Charizard and Dark Raichu in my decks and won so many games because of them). I'll also admit to watching the movies and anime up until the end of the Jhoto series.
More recently, I started playing Heart Gold on a hand-me-down DSI I got from my Sister and Leaf Green/ Fire Red on my phone via emulators. Now I'm tempted to see what X/Y will be like, but I'm not sure about some of the recent monster designs.A lot of the ones post-gen 3 look incredibly weird and nonsensical to me.

Re: pokemon?
I remember getting my first pokemon game out of a yard sale! Me and my brother both bought a Gameboy pocket (for him) with Blue and Yellow (yellow had a dead battery unfortunately and was lost..) and i got a yellow GBC with Crystal. Then after that the addiction grew lol.
got GBA SPs with Ruby+Sapphire then Fire red/Leaf Green then after that, DS lites with D/P and Heart gold/SS B/W and B/W2.
and now we got 3DSes and are eagerly awaiting X and Y! Sometimes I love having a brother to play pokemon with!

Re: pokemon?
Are there Pokemon games where the battle gameplay is similar to Smash Bros?

The closest I can remember was Pokemon Colosseum for the Gamecube.
