Re: Ontario Ice Storm 2013

The storm hit hardest in parts of southern Ontario. During the ice storm i was at my friend's house and suddenly the power is gone and trees damaged outside.

Re: Ontario Ice Storm 2013

I got lucky, no power outages where I live just a few snapped trees along the roads.

For those greatly affected stay safe and keep warm, also as mentioned on the news don't use propane/gas stoves or generators inside the house.

Peace!

Lost everything during the ice storm. I'm prepared for zombies so I was doing well in the preparation department.

Re: Ontario Ice Storm 2013

My grandma lost power on Saturday night around 8pm and the power came back on Monday night. It's a good thing my mother and sister left town ahead of me to visit her (they arrived on Sat around 11pm). It was take-out meals during the whole time, and the funniest thing is that my grandma complained about not having TV more than the telephone (damn Rogers), and electricity!

Re: Ontario Ice Storm 2013

So my mom emailed hydro yesterday saying how my 80-something-year-old grandparents were still without power and that their house is freezing. Within an hour of sending that email, the power was back on at their place. Coincidence?

Anyways, we took them back home last night and all is well.

Re: Ontario Ice Storm 2013

Wow, there's still people in the GTA without power.

Got back my cable, landline, and internet on the afternoon of Christmas Eve.

Atlantic Canada is also currently facing blackouts.

Makes us all realize how unprepared most us are in emergencies. All we lost was just power, imagine if we lost more? Remember that massive blackout in 2003? I wonder if Rogers will do anything to allow landlines to be used during future blackouts?

Anyone think this will change the trees and hydro lines' layout in the future for the city? "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

Other details about the program:

- Residents who've had a prolonged power outage and who need help will be able to collect a gift card at one of 15*Ontario Works Toronto offices*beginning*tomorrow and ending*Friday.
- Families in need will be eligible to receive a $100 gift card. Individuals in need will be eligible to receive a $50 gift card.
- Residents are asked to bring confirmation of their address and will be asked to declare the number of people in their household.
So awesome of the province and retailers to help out like this.

We didn't get that kind of help back in 98'.

I remember it was the same for me back in 98'. My dad gave me, my brother and our neighbor money to eat at Buffet
Kirin. Then we went back home to find the power back on. The owner or maybe manager at the time were frowning on us for staying for hours. Third hour we went home.

South shore residents weren't so lucky. 2-3 weeks for some. Horrifying experience for some of my friends.
