What do you think was the worst Concept for Transformers Toys over the Years?
I was born in 1983, when I started playing with Transformers, the concepts were getting pretty goofy. I can remember owning Pretenders, Micromasters, Targetmasters, Action Masters and Headmasters.
I actually thought Headmasters and Targetmasters were pretty cool. I liked having little robots with my Transformers.
Action Masters were pretty bad, but I did like the fact that the figures looked like the Characters on the Cartoon. They weren't very much fun to play with though.
Pretenders though I always thought were pretty lame. I never remember asking for more of these guys. The Autobots were ugly cyborgs and the Transformers inside them were just plain crappy. The decepticons were okay though, still not really the best idea ever.
It's a toss up between Action Masters and Pretenders, but I think Action Masters takes the cake because I think it really killed the line off for a few years. Transformers that don't Transform? What's the point?
Oh, and Throttlebots were crappy too. Really Crappy.
What do you guys think?
Cheers!

P.S. This isn't limited to G1, but I'm not too familiar with anything after Beast Wars.

Probably Action Masters. Should have been a sub-line, not a main line.

See I loved stuff like Action masters and Pretenders (the stuff that normally got the HATE), personally for me I think it was not so much a line or type of figure but the use of gold plastic (say BW Grimlock, G2 Slingshot, Pretender Skyhammer.... shit just breaks in your hands). Oh man.......

Never liked Pretenders. Just never made sense to me and I hated the look.

Its a toss up for me between Pretenders and Action Masters....leaning more toward Action Masters since they are transformers that fail to transform. On the opposite side I think Headmasters was the best, it was like 2 transformers in one!

Action masters.
I also didn't like the Target Masters. They were kind of neat, but I didn't like the idea that a TF would depend on another TF to turn into its weapon.

Action Masters. Sure we have non-transforming transformers now, but they are show acurate, little figures. Action Masters looked goofy and killed the line...

Action Masters And Pretenders yeah... sure... okay.
I REALLY hated how they made most of the energon autobots shitty just so they could make them combine.

As the Voice of Morality on this forum, I must say ActionMasters.
A Transformer who doesn't Transform is beyond lame, it is immoral.
Storywise not so, especially how Simon Furman made it a side-effect of a well-intentioned and selfless act. Amazing!
But toyly, I really hope the designer got fired by Hasbro. and the exec who approved it. A Transformer who doesn't Transform? I think some folks there didn't understand what Transformer means.
