Re: Pawn Stars Episode Featuring Transformers

sooooooo many duplicates.

No wonder it is hard to find some G1 stuff.
I blame him. And Chans Formers.

Astrana might be paying that collector a "visit" soon, as only he can.

Re: Pawn Stars Episode Featuring Transformers

To be fair, 10K isn't a bad price considering he's selling them as a lot. First the store has to make money off it (obviously) so offering him something close to it's true fair market value doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Second the number of hours it would take to sell them, ship them, etc would be brutal and yes time is money.

Personally I think he should take his large ticket items like Fort Max and sell them himself to get top dollar. Then go on the various Transformer message boards and let people know he's doing a local sale one weekend and sell off a good chuck then and there. The rest can either be parted out slowly (for the most part, they aren't going down in price anytime soon) or sold off to a retailer.

Yeah... thanks for sharing the link. I hadn't caught that episode yet. But yeah the guy was better off selling them himself. But if you watch the show you'll notice a trend. They usually give a person around half of market value, sometimes a little more. So it's not out of the ordinary in terms of that show, and I guess any shop buying transformers.

Re: Pawn Stars Episode Featuring Transformers

I'm not surprise they offered him 5 Gs.
Pawnshops usually offer 1/3 of the market value so they can make sure they get a profit when they sell it back out.

Re: Pawn Stars Episode Featuring Transformers

The thing is I don't think the seller was quoting market value to the pawn guy. It struck me like he was quoting what he wanted to get while recognizing that the collection was worth more than that so that pawn guy would make a profit.

easily 2x that much worth there

the pawn shop guy admitting that he didn't know much about them, then being shocked at a 20G price, just goes to show he never did any research before going to the guys house, should try to pawn off a LD figure on him and see what he offers just for fun, he'd probably say $5-$10

Re: Pawn Stars Episode Featuring Transformers

That's crazy, he must have 5 complete generation 1 sets there. At least 2 Scorponok boxes, Fortress Maximus box, ridiculous. Nothing like the Youtube clip of the guy in BC selling his collection for $100,000 though.
