What should happen with the Platinum Edition line?
Well, seeing the latest batch of "Platinum Edition" releases has made me both laugh and gag at the same time. That is a clear sign to me that the line has, at best, lost its way.
Between horrible pricing and ridiculous Toy/character choices I don't see a reason for this line to exist anymore. When the line started it seemed to be a way to justify releasing older, more desirable molds, even if the price was a little higher than I would have liked.
However now it seems that the line is all about releasing a set around some media tie-in (animated movie, specific secenes from shows, etc), and throwing out a ridiculous price. The only part of the line I still support is the YOT- Prime release every year, but only if I can get it on sale.
So with that in mind I wondered what should happen with the line?
Honestly it should just die because it is overpriced garbage 99% of the time. However what do you guys think? Should it die? Is there a way it can be improved? Or, heaven forbid, you think it is fine as it stands?

Re: What should happen with the Platinum Edition line?
The 86 movie set may be the only way to acquire at retail an Arcee figure. And they are painted shiny too.
Only problem is, I already have all the included figures.

Re: What should happen with the Platinum Edition line?
Isn't Platinum Edition made primarily for the Chinese market in China? Hasbro clearly think the new rich kids in China will buy anything and doesn't care what the rest of the world think of their "products"
Any one remember what China was like in the 80's?

Re: What should happen with the Platinum Edition line?
It should die, plain and simple.
While I have zero nostalgia for the vintage toys (having never owned them as a kid - deprived childhood and all), I've lately lost interest in the borderline-dollar-store stuff that Hasbro is putting out. So I've given up on the modern mainline, but strangely might have some interest in building a vintage/re-issue collection. It would be cool if Hasbro brought back the Commemorative Series, but only if they don't follow the Platinum Edition business model. Don't repaint them in garish colours, and don't price them like they are actually made out of platinum.

Re: What should happen with the Platinum Edition line?
For a premium line or what was suppose to be it's turned out to be a big disappointment in both the pieces they pick to represent and poor pricing the only saving grace it the year of line although it too is far over price with the exception of yot it should die a quiet death

Re: What should happen with the Platinum Edition line?
Yes, the line is overpriced and littered with ugly, but in my area, someone is buying them. Slowly but surely product is being bought.
As long as that happens the line will go on. But I can care less. I buy what I want and leave the rest behind. Including 3rd party, there's more TF stuff out there than I can ever buy. So for me dollars just get spent on other stuff.
The platinum line will die when the dollars say it should.

Well seeing on how well the line isn't selling I can't imagine it lasting much longer.
