I actually know a few people who do that for everything (ticket-wise), and swear by it.

I usually recheck the event a week before or even the day of to see if any more seats have been released.

I have some good luck with hockey games for that kind of thing (playoff tickets on gameday FTW!).

jourdo, you can try scouring the Calgary Craigslist/Kijiji website occasionally, you might find a few tickets of the event you want at a fair price, since people can actually not make it to an event, or the RedFlagDeal Buy/Sell/Trade forums, most of the people their are reputable and usually sell at cost or lower, since they usually cannot make it to the event in those situations.

Saw a few old for sale threads for the July Bon Jovi concert tickets in your city when I conducted a search.
