DragonBall Evolution

(Yes this is mostly a copy paste from the TFW thread)

DragonBall Evolution opened Nationwide today.

I just got back from a 2PM screening of DragonBall Evolution, and I have to admit, I actually enjoyed the movie a lot. So much so that I actually plan on watching it again.

This is from a person who has seen(and owns most of) all 153 episodes of DragonBall, all 291 episodes of Z, all 64 episodes of GT, the 4 DragonBall movies, the 13 DragonBall Z movies, the two OVAs, the two Z TV specials, the GT special, and even The Magic Begins. As well as owning all of the manga. To say I'm not a fan of the source is quite a stupid thing to say.

Stay durring the credits for something that will likely set up the sequel should DBE succeed.

--SPOILERS AHEAD--

The bootleg everyone has watched is missing like 20 minutes. The entire opening of the film is missing in that bootleg. As well as the credits, and a few other things. It's also very clear much footage ended up on the cutting room floor (Goku's friend in some early press releases, Weaver, is only mentioned a single time and never is actually seen, etc.). But James Wong, the director has confirmed the DVD version will have deleted scenes and should be a longer cut.

It's a very enjoyable movie if you don't start overthinking things. There are a lot of plot points that have not been explained (but considering it's been confirmed the DVD cut will be longer if may have been FOX's clippers leaving that on the floor), but if the film doesn't put a grin on your face atleast once I don't think you really love DragonBall. The movie isn't the most accurate to the source, but a very enjoyable movie was made from it.

While Goku in the beginning can be descibed as the emo stereotypical kid no one likes, he does exhibit a lot of scenes of over confidence, and gluttony (ie, the scene where Gohan prepares a feast for Goku, and the Goku munching down the drumstick).

There are some "WTF moments", mostly because a few things aren't explained:

Durring a flashback we see Goku as a baby, an Asian baby. Completely goes agaisnt the Caucasian Chatwin who plays teenage Goku.

Where Mai comes from is never explained.

Where Piccolo's ship comes from is never explained.

What Nameks are, as well as Saiyans are only breifly mentioned.

Roshi uses some Ka-Me-Ha-Me-Ha to revive Goku...

Also, many can find the Goku and Chi-Chi scenes to be painful. That is really what I disliked the most.

I realize there is that thread that hasn't been posted in like two months. It's alright though, since now the movie has actually been released.

Re: DragonBall Evolution

I personally cringe and almost feel embarrassed everytime i watch a scene from this movie...to me dragonball/z/gt is just not meant to be live action. I may watch the full film someday but no chance in hell will i pay $11.50 or whatever to see it in theatres.

Re: DragonBall Evolution

If and when it comes on TV, then I might watch it. Unless there is something else on. ( I have a feeling it's going to be the same to The Last Airbender. Awesome cartoon and concept, but some shows should just stay as cartoons.)

It's a miracle, I never thought I could care so little about a movie!

Re: DragonBall Evolution

How can an alien have a race other then his alien race? And it's not like DragonBall ever really had a defined earth that looked like ours.

Honestly, that is the least worst thing a person could complain about.
