Re: Transformers 3: To 3D or not to 3D?
That's useful info...thanks!
I'm probably going to try both...however, I will be cautious of the type of 3d--there's the different brands, and the last 3D movie I saw--Green Hornet--had terrible, cheap glasses made with very thin film polarizers that were warped and distorted and never made a nice image. Talk about a headache!!!

Unlike 35MM digital or film 3D (where the 2 images are coming from the same projector lens, filtered through a spiral polarization filter, then merged in your brain by the 3D glasses you are wearing), IMAX 3D uses 2 identical film rolls, 2 projectors and 2 horizontal and vertical polarized filters.
The image is then merged in your brain using the IMAX 3D glasses but if the projectors aren't aligned or one image is higher than the other or even if one projector is a couple frames ahead or behind of the other then you're heading for headache-ville.
That is unless projectionists at your local multiplex constantly check image alignment of their IMAX projectors (which they're not because they are kids getting paid $10/hr to thread and reload up to 16 projectors at a time).
I'm still gonna catch TF3 in IMAX 3D though...and yes it has everything to do with me being able to get in for free.

Re: Transformers 3: To 3D or not to 3D?
Wtahcing two 3D films in the theatres within a week of each other made my eyes sore and gave me a minor headache, so I'm going to avoid the 3D showings if I can.

An interesting insight, but you forget, regular theatres are showing 3D films these days in Digital 3D, it's on a CD or downloaded into some memory system attached to the projector... Or something like that, all theatres are switching to digital projectors these days, no unsightly scratches in your films, no need to train special people to thread or repair broken film (which they'd pretty much done away with anyway even before Digital was introduced, Projectionists are a thing of the past and that is definitely unfortunate.)
Digital is the future and digital is admittedly a better picture and sound quality. Imax should be switching everything over to digital as well, then their 3D process won't be so screwy.

Re: Transformers 3: To 3D or not to 3D?
3D doesn't work for me (no depth perception) so it'll be 2D for me.

Re: Transformers 3: To 3D or not to 3D?
I hate going to the theater and finding out that the movie I want to watch is only in 3D. There use to be 5 Theaters in SJ, now there is only 1 Megaplex. I find 3D to be more of a FAD that comes in and out every 10-20 years or so. I can only hope that out of the 3 or 4 theater rooms at the Theater One will be standard Edition.
Also I'm not a fan of paying almost another $7 for such a crappy gimick.
