Re: Toys R Us Canada Announces all Collector Items Products as FINAL SALE

TRU has always been pretty shitty with their employees. If a place has high turnover, chances are it is because it sucks to work there.

One thing I know TRU does is force their emoyees to push for in store extended warranties on car seats even in provinces where you are legally required to allow 1 year warranties on baby products.

Transformers is a mixed bag. Are you not going to allow a parent to return some Cyberverse (Earthspark now) because transformers are deemed collectors items? What about a core class, or deluxe?

I already brought up the new policy with my wife when talk about my sons upcoming birthday came up. Like manyy parents, we'll find a gift ahead of time, and if said item goes on sale somewhere else or his interests suddenly change we will return it.

Now she doesn't want to shop there at all. Its easy enough of anyone with a smartphone to check prices online or walmart down the street when at TRU shopping. Also another reason she doesn't want to shop there anymore.

I think this policy needs refinement. No returns on commander and Titan, sure I kinda understand. But most Tfs, deosn't make sense.
I didn't even think about this. If they adhere to this blanket, absolutely furious parents and upset kids for no legitimate reason.

Something that needs to be considered here is that store policies like this are intentionally written to be vague. The policy just says "collector figures" and in some - but not all - stores they have categorized Transformers as such. The policy doesn't explicitly say "all" Transformers, or just specific lines or price points. This vagueness allows each store some wiggle room so they can use a level of judgement when it comes to accepting returns or exchanges.

Will a TRU employee/manager refuse to take a return from a parent who has their 5-year-old child with them that brought back a clearly broken $20 Cyberverse figure? Probably not.

Will they refuse to take a return from a guy trying to return five of the same TRU exclusive figures, or the $300+ masterpiece or titan figure? Possibly, especially if the store manager recognizes that person as someone constantly returning items.

Obviously these are couple of extremely specific examples. Going forward, I expect those still buying from TRU will have different experiences with this policy, much the same as we've had different stories with things like Walmart's return policy, or Gamestop's street dates, or price matching when that was a thing, etc. Some stores are going to be a lot more lenient than others.

Is this a good thing for the customer experience? Depends on your outcome, I suppose.

Re: Toys R Us Canada Announces all Collector Items Products as FINAL SALE

I had a chat with the manager of the Victoria store, she said that 'defective goods' will be accepted, 'at her discretion', not sure what will happen when she's not actually at the store... but that the policy is ENTIRELY to curb toy swapping

no comment about how paying her staff more and encouraging greater vigilance with returns might have worked better and not pissed everyone off though...

Ive only seen toy swapping at Walmart(they put the swapped toy back on the shelf). The swapper would alter the packaging with a glued print out of an old toy
