Re: I don't care about my life

I'm going to be less diplomatic about this.. i only see 2 choices atm..

a) Get your ass out of the house and away from the computer. Put on some clean clothes, look respectable, walk into a temp agency and have them find work that suits you. Don't be picky - you can be picky after you're working.

b) Go to a doctor/hospital and tell them you're not feeling suicidal. Dont sugarcoat it; dont say you're depressed.

At 33 - you dont have a job or a gf or whatever. It happens and you're not the only person. Lots of people are late bloomers and go about trying to figure out how they fit into society. It doesn't mean you're a loser - it means you're still searching. Stop looking at what other people have and what you don't. Look at what you do have and make changes to better the situation. Small goals for yourself and make sure you do them everyday.

best of luck.

Whatever I could do as long as I don't have take my underwear off. I was even considering joining the Navy (not that I would pass physical anyway).

Stay positive. If you have nothing to lose, then you have everything to prove.
That's great for you guy, but you clearly are not depressed and have no clue what it's like.

Nobody wants to feel this way and comparing your own experiences is exactly the kind of thing that makes people feel that nobody gets it and that there must be something wrong with them.

You can't just not be depressed...it's not a choice.

The worst thing you can do for someone suffering from depression is to project them into your shoes.

To the OP...

The way that you are feeling is NOT YOUR FAULT.

Many, many people suffer from the same or very similar illness that is affecting you.

You CAN'T help yourself, you CAN allow someone else to try and help you...even if it seems pointless right now.

You need to see a doctor who will refer you to a specialist...someone you can talk to who understands at least a little what it's like to feel the way you do.

For some people talking it out really helps...for others, there are supplements or drugs that can help you if you let someone help you.

you are terribly misinformed, yes they ask for money and help, but not from the people that use them. About ten years ago, i was homeless and broke, sleeping in the streets in the middle of winter, the whole nine. Food banks kept me alive, they don't have grade AAA steaks or anything, but they do have food. and some of it's pretty tasty. Some cities also have hot lunch/supper programs where you can go to get a good meal once or twice a day.

Where I was living they had a program to help you get back on your feet with work through the government, you should look into if montreal has the same thing, they helped me up my education, get some certificates for my line of work, and helped with a placement to start me off getting back into the workforce and feeling better about myself.

at the end of the day, other than a bunch of advice and "sorry to hear"s, you won't get much out of us. You have to make the change yourself. The meds and stuff are helpful, but they are a temporary thing. You need to better your own situation, and little by little, your depression will go away. Even if you have to use the meds at first to keep it at bay, eventually they won't be needed anymore.

Re: I don't care about my life

I wish you all the best,

Please challenge yourself... it's easy in life whether it's going well or not to fall into a routine.

If things are not going the way you wish set some small goals as Slayback has mentioned.

Get some energy back and try to do some things which are different. I don't think any of us here are qualified on next steps but others have shared some of their life experience. I.E. Icy.

A small change can go a long way. Build off it and run with it.
Beat this bro, I want to hear some good things from you soon!!!

Re: I don't care about my life

Hey dude!
I'm in Montreal too! Have we met before?

I'm from the West Island. Which area of town are you from?

I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I have no idea what you are feeling as I cannot put myself in your shoes.

I called a Montreal help line at 514-723-400. I asked to talk in English (This is Quebec after all! )

They actually sounded pretty helpful and like they cared.

Please call them, I'm quite hopeful they can help; at the very least get you headed in the right direction.

p.s. "You Got the Touch" is an AWESOME song! It's been my favorite song since 1986!

Re: I don't care about my life

Hi

I'm Shan. Listen, we don't know each other, but look at all these people replying. We would all feel horribly hurt if you did anything to harm yourself. You're important and you have value, and we may not know you very well yet, we'd like to have the opportunity.

Where in Montreal are you exactly? Would you be willing to message me your phone number so we can talk?

Wow. Some really amazing advice here. This is actually very insperational Brr-icy.

Ironwave, you have a network here. Everyone is pulling for you and we have not even met. Yes, it's a small step, but you have to want to take it. All the best.

My church has a soup kitchen every Tuesday where we serve 40-80 people a lunch far better than I normally make for myself. Far more than soup. And it is free. Our church also keeps bags of food just in case someone drops in. Also, the Salvation Army shelter in my town certainly does not charge and the food is good canned goods that everyone else eats. So I don't know if you actually went to the food bank, if this is just something you are telling yourself, or if in Quebec the food banks charge, but it does not correlate to my experience.. Also, the shelter in my church feeds people breakfast and dinner every single day.

Depression isn't something you can just decide to snap out of, but you do have to take steps to get better. Just like any other illness, you can't get better sitting at home on the couch. You need to get help and you need to help yourself. I speak from experience.
