Troi: Uh-huh

I liked Insurrection because it was trying to be lighthearted like The Voyage Home.

Insurrection get's far too much hate IMO. Sure it proceeded one of the Best movies, but it was a decent TNG story, just in movie form.

I liked Voyager as well, there were some fantastic stuff throughout the series.

But it was like watching TF: Prime....status quo from 3rd ep to intro of 7 of 9, more status quo to the ep before the final 2 eps.

I always felt it played more like a television episode of TNG than an expansive cinematic take on the property. I don't particularly hate it, per se, but FC was superior and Generations is up there just for the geek out factor of seeing the TNG cast on the silver screen for the first time.

Re: The Star Trek "REAL FAN'S" ;) Thread

This is hilarious...

Movies in order of best to worst:

First Contact
Insurrection
The Undiscovered Country
The Voyage Home
The Wrath of Khan
Generations
Nemesis
The Search for Spock
The Final Frontier
Star Trek 11 (JJ's first)
Into Darkness
The Motion Picture

TNG had the best crew, DS9 had the best story, Voyager and Enterprise were crap, complete and total garbage and they are directly responsible for the demise of what was good Star Trek.

The Original was what it was and without it we couldn't have had almost 50 years of Trek, regardless of who likes what. Original Trek deserves respect and lots of it for starting it all.

Insurrection is your Second favorite?

Really?

It's really hard to say if TOS on it's own was the reason for the continued success. It really only lasted 3 seasons (with the last being a writeoff) and could have been forgotten if not for the Motion picture.

I'd argue that TNG had more of a impact on pop culture.

But TOS had more of an impact on reality...cell phones, bluetooth, voice commands, video conferencing, etc etc etc.

But the TOS fans got the movies going, and new younger fans wanted more...thus TNG. That's what I believe.

Now, in terms of Into Darkness, I've left it off the list by virtue of not having seen it yet (and not having any strong desire to do so). I will, eventually.

Man....twenty years since "All Good Things...". I'm certainly feeling older today! Ha ha ha!

I remember having to tape it when it first aired here as I was going to be away for a friends' birthday that evening. When I did get back and had a chance to watch it, I remember being horrified about halfway through as the local CBC affiliate somehow managed to repeat a segment of the episode twice in succession (as in, when it came back from commercial, it was the same portion of the episode that had been just broadcast). In my head I realized that I wouldn't get to see the end of the episode as the VCR timer would cut off prior to the end of the broadcast. However, for some reason, the entire episode recorded.

I never did figure out why that stroke of good luck happened when it shouldn't have. I still have the tape, and could hook up a VCR and maybe figure it out, but I think it's just best leave it as a mystery.

I can't argue about Insurrection and The Final Frontier, but did you ever watch the Special Edition DVD of The Motion Picture? My opinion of that movie jumped considerably after seeing it.

Re: The Star Trek "REAL FAN'S" ;) Thread

Ranking the films is tough... What is the criteria?

So, here's my gauge:

Assume I've worked a 14 hour shift. I've picked up some sort of fast food (likely an assorted sub) on my way home. I need something to watch while I eat, and decide on a Star Trek movie. Of course, I will be finished eating before the movie ends. But before the movie ends, will I be asleep?

On a basis of the likeliness of my being awake at the end of the movie, here is my best-to-worst:

First Contact
JJ: Star Trek
The Voyage Home
The Wrath of Khan
Generations
JJ: Into Darkness
The Undiscovered Country
The Search for Spock
The Final Frontier
Nemesis
Insurrection
The Motion Picture

On a side note, Voyager was my favourite series... I realize there are annoying inconsistencies with the characters, and some plot devices which just should not have existed, but I enjoyed that it examined a lot of societal interactions, and that it still has a sense of presenting stand-alone episodes. (Not really needing to know the ongoing storylines, as in DS9).
