I'm not sure any relationship can fall apart because of a different set of interests, but sometimes people are just different altogether. Although having some common interests is important, at least a middle ground so that you can do things together.

Just live life, keep your eyes and heart open. Relationships don't have to be a quest. If a person can make friendships work without hunting for potential pals, then that person can do the same for more-than-friendships.

My gf and I have different interests (well, except my magnificient Adonis body™ but then again, who wouldn't be addicted) and we get along great ! I don't think it's justifiable to break up with someone with differents interests... Many guys are selfish assholes, don't get miserable because of 1.

a convention is a great way to meet people but theres other things you could do to. my second girlfriend, who im not with anymore btw, actually was in hmv and we both were looking at similar music so after about a 15 min chat i asked her out for coffee.

that was a 3 month relationship that i didnt expect to happen from an hmv music talk.

long rant short: you never no were you can meet people be it a convention, mall, park, ect.

It's not always good to have a partner or friend with the same interests because there usually comes to a point where you run out of things to say and get a bit tired of each other(i know that sounds a bit heartless). But, if you are a bit opposite you can teach each other new things and open each others minds to things that make a relationship special.
