Re: Happy Canada Day! / Bonne Fête du Canada!
In May of 1867, three men (John A. MacDonald, George Brown & Jacques Cartier) were trapped on a ship a mile or so off the coast of P.E.I. (There was a fair and the fellow who would ferry persons from ship to shore was at it.)
All these guys had to keep them occupied was a shipload of beer (Moosehead?), a draft version of a bill to unite the 4 provinces (ON, PQ, NB & NS) and a stern direction from Britain that failure to make a deal would have a significant negative impact on future shipments of supplies.
Some days (and probably some beers) later, what would become the first real document of the Constituton of Canada, the British North America Act was passed by the Imperial Parliament of the UK beginning a legacy of beer drinking and squabbling amongst the forefathers of this great nation.
Now, 146 years (and many amendments) later, the descendents of these great men's constituents carry on a tradition of great beer and great dissagreement that is the foundation of our vast land.
Happy Canada Day!
