Masterpiece Rodimus Prime questions

Forgive me if this is a question which has been posed before. I have a Hasbro MP Rodimus. Yesterday when I walked by the display case he’s in I noticed that his left arm had fallen off. On closer inspection it seems that the red plug? (not sure what I should call it) inside the shoulder joint has sheared off. I wonder if this is because it was constantly under pressure from the spring which wraps around it. The arm which fell of is the one which wasn’t holding the gun although I suppose he's still been dis-armed. Anyway, this leads to a few questions if anyone can help.

1) Is this a known problem

2) Can it be fixed and if so how? Ideally I’d like to fix it so the toy can still transform.

3) Anyone know of anywhere where these are still on the shelf if I needed a new one?
Thanks.

Re: Masterpiece Rodimus Prime questions

1) Very known problem. Mine broke last week just chilling in the package after I moved. Never moved the arm or transformed once.

2)I have not yet figured out a fix that still allows for transformation.

3)I am also looking for one and still haven't found a cheap enough one to risk another arm.

Re: Masterpiece Rodimus Prime questions

1) Yes.

2) Difficultly, considering the weakness of the plastic and where it is. Not impossible, but more trouble than it's worth. Permanent solution, no. Other stuff will happen. Legs will go, arms will go, joints will crack and snap with stress marks, etc.

3) People are trying to purge junker ones, seeing as Hasbro's MP Roddy's really badly designed and manufactured with weaker plastic. If you really want him, pick up TakaraTomy's Masterpiece Rodimus Prime (version 2). Version 1 of TakaraTomy's has many of the same problems as Hasbro's.

Still, Version 2 still isn't as well designed as it should be.

Which version is breaking at the shoulder? Only Hasbro or Takara v1 as well? Or v2?

Let's assume Hasbro's breaks everywhere.

Re: Masterpiece Rodimus Prime questions

Do you think it's a design flaw that's going to affect all Hasbro Rodimus Primes eventually, or is it just craptastic QA roulette?

If so, I'm putting mine back in the packaging. That's not a total fix, as I know there have been some in-package disarmed Rodimi, but anything that takes stress of the arms can't hurt.

Re: Masterpiece Rodimus Prime questions

Would it be possible to do a "pre-emptive fix", like take the arms off right away, maybe "loosen up" the spring in it a bit somehow so that it's not putting so much stress on the joint? Although, while this might alleviate the breaking issue, it would probably introduce floppy-arm syndrome, making display poses difficult.

While mine is still intact, I'm starting to think it might have been a bad purchase. At least I got it on sale.

Never heard about this issue. I should look into it and see how mine is doing.

Re: Masterpiece Rodimus Prime questions

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Unfortunately its what I expected to hear.

If I did track down Takara version 2 is it known at all to suffer from this issue?
