iGear - poor quality or unlucky?

Hi everyone! I bought my first iGear piece this weekend at Metrocon (MW-04 UFO, yeah, the not-Cosmos) and to my dismay he was damaged out of the box. The post that holds the hip and leg array was poor quality and sheered off either in transit or upon removal from the packaging. Inspection of said post showed striations in the plastic. Is this a common iGear thing or am I just unlucky? I've already taken him apart and repaired the post, once everything has set for 24 hours or so I'll see how permanent the damage is.

Thoughts, opinions please?

Re: iGear - poor quality or unlucky?

Sorry about you issue with your figure...Its always sucks when you buy something at a toyshow and when you open the figure its busted, that really pisses me off to no end. Ive had problems with Igear figures, remember that they are a knock off company selling bootleg figures so crappy quality is to be expected and they have horrible customer service at least from what I have experienced. The figures I bought from them so far have poor plastic...like seaspray, huffer and Hench...and he has mold defects like the ball joints for his shoulders. They look great but feel cheap and not really worth the price IMO but I still buy em. Food for thought. Good luck with your repairs, I hope that it all works out for you. Id say call Igear but they don't care at all.

Re: iGear - poor quality or unlucky?

I have Rager and Spray and, like MH, agree that they look cool but aren't great on the plastic quality.
Nothing broke on either piece, but I can definitely see weakness in certain areas.

I don't have any of the PP-series though, and apparently those were pretty good?

I've got 2 of the seekers and I've had no issues with quality at all. I'm looking for Ramjet and sunstorm and will not hesitate.

Apologies to hear some of the issues you are all having.

I have all the jet and Medic and Warrior. I am completely happy with them.
PP-03s are done extremely well.

Surprising, that Cosmos is probably made with the best plastic I've ever seen on a 3rd party toy. Nothing to do with Rager or Spray.

Re: iGear - poor quality or unlucky?

Thanks for your replies everyone, much appreciated!

I won't say I'm upset over this, it was more of an "aw, shoot" sort of moment. I've inspected all of his other parts and joints and that post is the only defect I can find. All in all, I think I'll chalk this up to unlucky and see what tomorrow's rebuild brings. I don't tend to transform my toys too often anyways so I think he'll be fine. I certainly don't intend to waste my time and energy chasing iGear over it.

Re: iGear - poor quality or unlucky?

Well.... when i received my order of igear cosmos and hench - the very first one i opened had pretty much the exact same problem. One of the slave laborers likely drilled the screw in too tight and cracked the housing. I sent an email to igear right away - and since as far as i know - one of the first people to get these guys - i was the first to point out the problem. they said they were going to mail out parts to everyone. yep. so no i still havent received- and ive spoken to them on several occasions. lately though - they've been on the down low... they're not appearing on emails or anything.

And i just sent them an email:

IGear,

I've asked for replacement parts for my ufo figure on several occasions. You did respond and say you would. I in good faith have taken you at your word -but its now March - and my other emails have gone unanswered. I was hoping that I could get the parts - because I do want to purchase a larger amount of the new mini figures that are supposed to be coming out. But your lack of customer service not only to me, but many other buyers has put a black mark on your reputation. How am I as a small business owner supposed to buy from you to sell to customers if I can't trust you to back your own product or fix quality control issues?

I hope they respond in a good way. I was really hoping to bring in the new sets by buying in bulk but if they dont answer I'm probably going to drop them. its disappointing how crap their customer service is.

Re: iGear - poor quality or unlucky?

I find Igear to be hit and miss. I thought the quality on Rager & Spray were pretty good and the PP Weapons Specialist and Medic (not-Ironhide & not-Ratchet) were really good. My not-Cosmos was ok but my not-Brawn's left arm socket is a little loose. I have heard that their customer service is less than stellar though, which is disappointing.

Re: iGear - poor quality or unlucky?

I got the second 'improved' run of PP01 Faith Leader from Igear. The first run had problems where the toy broke all the time. The second run was supposed to fix those issue but when I got it, it still felt so flimsy that I thought it was going to fall apart on me at any moment. I was lucky enough to sell mine.

I was interested in the computer control center playset, but after seeing terrible reviews for it I changed my mind. I really wanted to get this set but I wish a different and more reputable company made it.

Based on igears history I passed on their Masterpiece seeker knockoffs which were apparently really well done. I guess that's was one of the only things they got right considering they pretty much stole the exact same molds Hasbro used in their chinese factories.

To me, igear is the kid in school that failed two tests and then aced the last one because he cheated.
