On a Lazy Sunday Afternoon...

My kids weren't really interested Transformers as they're more Paw Patrol and Pokemon fans. They might Transform things once in a while, but it never kept their attention for more than a few minutes.
On one Sunday afternoon, they asked if they can play with my "toy" collection that I keep on my work desk. Then something magical happened (see attached pics) ...

They played with my collection for 1 hour straight. Now they won't stop fighting over them.

Some interesting points:
1. My 6-year-old figured out how to Transform all the POTP Dinobots and assemble him into Volcanicus. The Hasbro age guide of 8+ may be on the conservative side.
2. My fix for the broken tab on CW Scrapper (http://www.cybertron.ca/boards/showthread.php?t=74202) survived the play session, demonstrating its robustness.
3. My 6-year-old's favourite is TR Six Shot followed closely by the Dinobots.
4. My 3-year-old loves the RTS Legends Optimus Prime and Prowl, followed by the LG-EX Ginrai solely in truck mode. He likes putting the RTS Prime into the trailer of LG-EX.
5. They both very much enjoy having Legends class figures crawl all over Generations Metroplex. Way to go Hasbro for how they designed those figures to interact!

While I was apprehensive at the kids breaking things, they were very respectful of the toys (i.e. no crashing them together, as I'm sure they were tempted to do).

All in all, it was worth risking my admittedly meagre collection to get them interested in Transformers. My 3-year-old now regularly sings the G1 cartoon theme song.

My purpose in life has been fulfilled...

very nice!
After seeing your pic, I'm thinking maybe I should ask my son play with my toys as well.

Re: On a Lazy Sunday Afternoon...

Great bonding time indeed! I think part of the respect they demonstrated is because they know without a shadow of a doubt these toys belong to their father, not just some other kid who has no authority over them. They may not be familiar with the word, but they grasp the connotative feelings about it.

It's great that they're intuitively figuring out the engineering ahead of the recommended age groups of those toys, but like you said, Hasbro might just be playing it safe literally for safety reasons (small moving parts, etc.). Hope you and your minibots share more experiences like this together!

This is great! Nothing like seeing the younger generations getting the same if not more enjoyment out of transformers than we do. I got my nephew interested in Transformers by guying then for him as gifts and now I think he is more passionate about them than I am.

This is it! I feel the same way every time my 3 year old repeats the line "Megatron must be stopped, no matter the cost."
