Selling collection...some questions

Hi everyone!

Well, I finally decided my Alternators collection is going to go. I need some extra $$$ for a post-grad certificate at college. I want to maximize my profit while still understanding that loose toys don't draw a lot of cash . I don't have an eBay account, so I was thinking of craigslist and BST forums. Does anyone have experience with this stuff? Should I sell piece-by-piece or the entire collection? Any help is appreciated!

You'll usually attract more interest if you piece it out than trying to sell that massive lot. With the fees you're bound to get dinged for all those Alts, it would be better to try and unload them first on the boards.

Good luck with your sales...

Piece by piece will sell easier because it allows us to pick and choose which ones we need for our collections.

The whole enchilada at once....is for someone who's just getting into the hobby and doesn't want to piece together a collection. Those guys are harder to find.

Re: Selling collection...some questions

Thanks for the tips!

Are Alternators currently a hot item? I just checked eBay and the prices are higher than I expected e.g loose Shockblast = $40, that kind of thing. What should I ask for my Alts? BTW these are the ones I have (all loose, collecting dust on the shelf):

Silverstreak
Skids
Sunstreaker
Dead End
Ravage (1st version)
Smokescreen
Windcharger
Tracks
Sideswipe
Meister
Prowl
Swindle
Hound

Again, any help is appreciated!

Re: Selling collection...some questions

Sorry, forgot to mention:

Meister (shoulder pops out easily, came that way)
Prowl (shoulder pops out easily, came that way)
Swindle (some pegs in the rollbar assembly are broken)

I also have RiD Scourge loose w/box, TFC #6 G1 Megatron reissue and the TRU G1 Soundwave (both MIP)

The loose toys have all been TFed about a half-dozen times or so and mostly spend their time on a shelf. I'd say their condition is C9 (except for Swindle's rollbar)

The prices can vary quite a bit depending on which one you have, since some are more popular or rare.

For instance, Swindle and Skid sold for $10 at Walmart, I have also seen Tracks for $30 and these are all new in the box.

So it is kinda hard to price them, I would suggest pricing based on what you willing to let them go for.

Re: Selling collection...some questions

Just to give you an idea. I bought a set of 16 alts (all loose) on ebay for $350 shipping included earlier last year. Some may say I overpaid but I don't regret getting them.
